Hypertension is a major risk factor for many cardiovascular diseases, which can lead to kidney and heart disease, stroke, and premature death. Inhibiting angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) activity is an effective method to relieve hypertension. Previously, we screened an active peptide KYPHVF (KF6) from Boletus griseus-Hypomyces chrysospermus with excellent ACE inhibitory activity.

In this paper, nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) are synthesized by the hydrothermal method. N-CQDs exhibit strong fluorescence, and N-CQDs are well dispersed in water as well as in various organic solvents. N-CQDs emit multi-color fluorescence from blue to red, with wavelengths in the range of 450-650 nm without the need for purification.

In most mollusks (conchiferans), the early tissue responsible for shell development, namely, the shell field, shows a common process of invagination during morphogenesis. Moreover, lines of evidence indicated that shell field invagination is not an independent event, but an integrated output reflecting the overall state of shell field morphogenesis. Nevertheless, the underlying mechanisms of this conserved process remain largely unknown.

The interaction between environmental factors and Vibrio in bivalves is not well understood, despite the widely held belief that pathogen infection and seawater temperature significantly impact summer mortality. In the present study, we conducted simulated experiments to explore the effects of high temperature and Vibrio infection on the clam Meretrix petechialis. The survival curve analysis revealed that the combined challenge of high temperature and Vibrio infection (31°C-vibrio) led to significantly higher clam mortality compared to the groups exposed solely to Vibrio (27°C-vibrio), high temperature (31°C-control), and the control condition (27°C-control).

This study aims to seek angiotensin-I-converting enzyme inhibitory (ACEi) peptides from walnut using different enzymatic hydrolysis, and further to validate the potent ACEi peptides identified and screened via peptidomics and in silico analysis against hypertension in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Results showed that walnut protein hydrolysate (WPH) prepared by combination of alcalase and simulated gastrointestinal digestion exhibited high ACEi activity. WPH was separated via Sephadex-G25, and four peptides were identified, screened and verified based on their PeptideRanker score, structural characteristic and ACE inhibition.

Intestinal hypoganglionosis in adults is quite uncommon, and hypoganglionosis of the ileum has not been documented to date. The majority of studies on this disorder are single case reports and brief case series. We describe a 30-year-old male patient with bowel obstruction and intestinal hypoganglionosis of the ileum and we review the literature on the disorder.
