Uptake and correlates of chlamydia and gonorrhea testing among female sex workers in Southern China: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Female sex workers (FSW) are highly susceptible to chlamydia and gonorrhea infection. However, there is limited literature examining their testing uptake to date. This study aimed to assess the uptake and determinants of chlamydia and gonorrhea testing among FSW in Southern China.

Vitreoretinal surgeons' experience and time interval from pars-plana vitrectomy to cataract extraction.

Aim: To identify the association of the vitreoretinal surgeons' experience with the time interval between pars-plana vitrectomy (PPV) and cataract extraction (CE).

Methods: Eyes with prior PPV and following CE were included in this retrospective cohort study. The years of practice and the annual case volume were used to describe the surgeons' experience.

Study time, glasses utilization and age affect quality of life among senior first-year Chinese myopia students.

Purpose: To compare the quality of life of senior first-year students with normal vision and myopia, and to explore the risk factors related to quality of life in students with myopia.

Methods: In this study, 1103 senior first-year students were enrolled in ten high schools. These students were divided according to the diopter degree, with 916 myopia students and 187 normal vision students.

Aim: To evaluate the accuracy of eight different intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formulas for a segmented multifocal IOL.

Methods: A total of 53 eyes of 41 adult cataract patients who underwent phacoemulsification and implantation with the SBL-3 segmented multifocal IOL between January 1, 2017 and January 31, 2019 were included in this retrospective study. Preoperative biometry measurements were obtained using an IOL Master.

The genovariation of endothelin receptor type B () was identified in a Chinese family with Waardenburg syndrome type I (WS1) in the present study. WS1 was diagnosed in a 19-year-old young man, his older sister and aunt according to WS consortium criteria. After extracting genomic DNA from the peripheral blood samples, the coding exons and intronic regions of were sequenced.

Inhibition of retinal ganglion cell apoptosis: regulation of mitochondrial function by PACAP.

Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) is an endogenous peptide with neuroprotective effects on retinal neurons, but the precise mechanism underlying these effects remains unknown. Considering the abundance of mitochondria in retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), we postulate that the protective effect of PACAP is associated with the regulation of mitochondrial function. RGC-5 cells were subjected to serum deprivation for 48 hours to induce apoptosis in the presence or absence of 100 nM PACAP.

Endogenous aspergillus endophthalmitis after kidney transplantation.

Endogenous aspergillus endophthalmitis(EAE) after kidney transplant is a rare but important clinical problem due to potentially devastating consequences. Early diagnosis of EAE, timely removal of affected vitreous by vitrectomy, proper anti-fungal treatment, all contributed to the successful control of the disease. Therapeutic success of EAE in post-transplant patients depends largely on prompt diagnosis.
