Hydrogen peroxide (HO) was used to modify a natural polymer, sesbania gum (SG), to prepare oxidized sesbania gum (OSG) with the aim of investigating the physicochemical properties, antimicrobial activity of polyethylene oxide (PEO), OSG, and ε-poly(lysine) (ε-PL) composite fibre membranes and their applications in fresh-cut mango preservation. The PEO/OSG/ε-PL composite fibre membranes were successfully prepared via solution blow spinning (SBS) technology. The results of a series of characterizations revealed that ε-PL was successfully loaded into the fibrous membranes, exhibited good biocompatibility, and ε-PL was better encapsulated, with the membranes.

A compact and robust optical excitation photoacoustic sensor with a self-integrated laser module excitation and an optimized differential resonator was developed to achieve high sensitivity and full linear range detection of carbon dioxide (CO) based on dual modes of wavelength modulated photoacoustic spectroscopy (WMPAS) and resonant frequency tracking (RFT). The integrated laser module equipped with three lasers (a quantum cascade laser (QCL), a distributed feedback laser (DFB) and a He-Ne laser) working in a time-division multiplexing mode was used as an integrated set of spectroscopic sources for detection of the designated concentration levels of CO. With the absorption photoacoustic mode, the WMPAS detection with the QCL and DFB sources was capable of CO detection at concentrations below 20 %, yielding a noise equivalent concentration (NEC) as low as 240 ppt and a normalized noise equivalent absorption coefficient (NNEA) of 4.

The symbiotic relationship between plant roots and soil infiltration is of great significance for sustainable development of the agriculture and forestry. Through detailed summary of the relationship between root morphological parameters and soil infiltration rates in arid and semi-arid grasslands mainly with leguminous herbs, gramineous herbs and shrubs, the mechanisms that key parameters (root length density, surface area density, diameter, biomass density, architecture, secretion and decay rate) disturb soil infiltration through affecting soil structure such as porosity, soil bulk density and soil organic matter (SOM) are elucidated. Furthermore, the degree of root disturbance on soil structure and infiltration rates are partially clarified by constructing quantitatively structural equation modeling path diagrams.

Ferroptosis, a form of regulated cell death mediated by lipid peroxidation (LPO), has become the subject of intense research due to its potential therapeutic applications in cancer chemotherapy as well as its pathophysiological role in ischemic organ injury. The role of mitochondrial lipid peroxidation (LPO) in ferroptosis remains poorly understood. We show that supplementation of exogenous iron in the form of ferric ammonium citrate (FAC) in combination with buthionine sulfoximine (BSO, an inhibitor of glutathione biosynthesis) induces mitochondrial lipid peroxidation that precedes ferroptosis in normal human fibroblasts.

This paper explores whether it is feasible to use the RGB color information in images of wheat canopies that were exposed to low temperatures during the growth season to achieve fast, non-destructive, and accurate determination of the severity of any freeze injury it may have incurred. For the study presented in this paper, we compared the accuracy of a number of algorithmic classification models using either meteorological data reported by weather services or the color gradation skewness-distribution from high-definition digital canopy images acquired in situ as inputs against a reference obtained by manually assessing the severity of the freeze injury inflicted upon wheat populations at three experimental stations in Shandong, China. The algorithms we used to construct the models included in our study were based on either K-means clustering, systematic clustering, or naïve Bayesian classification.

This study assessed the effects of β-mannanase (BM) supplementation on growth performance, digestive enzyme activity, cecal microbial communities, and short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production in broiler chickens fed diets with different metabolizable energy (ME) levels. A total of 1,296 male 1-d-old Cobb 500 broilers were randomly distributed in a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement (3 ME levels × 0 or 200 g/ton BM), with 6 replicates per treatment combination. The 3 ME levels were 3,000 (ME1), 2,930 (ME2), and 2,860 (ME3) kcal/kg, respectively, during the 0 to 3 wk-old stages and 3,150 (ME1), 3,080 (ME2), and 3,010 (ME3) kcal/kg, respectively, during the 3 to 6 wk-old stages.

Lipid peroxidation plays an important role in various pathologies and aging, at least partially mediated by ferroptosis. The role of mitochondrial lipid peroxidation during ferroptosis remains poorly understood. We show that supplementation of exogenous iron in the form of ferric ammonium citrate at submillimolar doses induces production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation in mitochondria that precede ferroptosis in H9c2 cardiomyocytes.

We present a sensitive and compact quantum cascade laser-based photoacoustic greenhouse gas sensor for the detection of CO CH and CO and discuss its applicability toward on-line real-time trace greenhouse gas analysis. Differential photoacoustic resonators with different dimensions were used and optimized to balance sensitivity with signal saturation. The effects of ambient parameters, gas flow rate, pressure and humidity on the photoacoustic signal and the spectral cross-interference were investigated.

This study investigated an innovative strategy of incorporating surfactants into alkaline-catalyzed glycerol pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis to improve lignocellulosic biomass (LCB) conversion efficiency. In recent years, the effective management of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is gaining growing attention. In 2014, our hospital established the CKD generalist-specialist combination management model, which incorporates a set of CKD management processes. The generalist component incorporates the following, general practitioners from 6 community health centers in the surrounding areas (with about 650 000 permanent residents in the region) joining hands, setting up a management team composed of doctors and nurses, and formulating management protocols for patient follow-up, patient record management, screening, risk assessment, examination and treatment, nutrition and exercise, and two-way referrals.

Circular RNA (circRNA) is one of non-coding RNA with specific circular structure, which has been found to be involved in regulating a series of malignant biological behaviors in many malignant tumors. In this study, based on the IDH1 molecular typing of gliomas, we identified a significant downregulation of circRNA (circIQGAP1) expression in IDH1 mutant gliomas by high-throughput sequencing. In 79 tissue samples, we confirmed that circIQGAP1 expression was significantly downregulated in IDH1 mutant gliomas, and that low circIQGAP1 expression was positively associated with better prognosis.

We report a low-cost and highly sensitive label-free SERS biosensor for pathogen detection. Herein, this study prepared 4-formylphenylboric acid (FPBA) functionalized magnetic nanoparticles to adsorb pathogenic bacteria through boric acid affinity principle, and used aptamer modified Au@AgNPs as SERS substrate to specifically combine with pathogenic bacteria to form a sandwich structure. The pathogenic bacteria were detected by portable Raman spectrometer for SERS detection, and the fingerprint signals of pathogenic bacteria were analyzed by principal component analysis (PCA) to achieve the purpose of classification and identification of pathogenic bacteria.
