Non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) exhibits a high incidence and mortality rate worldwide. Elevated cytokinesis cyclin 25 homologous protein C (CDC25C) expression is correlated with a poor prognosis in patients with NSCLC. Transcriptional regulation and post‑transcriptional modification are critical mechanisms governing gene expression, with aberrations in these processes increasingly recognized as pivotal contributors to cancer pathogenesis.

In a prospective longitudinal study with 218 Parkinson's disease (PD) patients in the discovery cohort and 84 in the validation cohort, we aimed to identify novel blood biomarkers predicting disability milestones in PD. Through Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator-Cox (Lasso-Cox) regression, developed nomogram predictive model and Linear mixed-effects models, we identified low level of plasma fibronectin (pFN) as one of the best-performing risk markers in predicting disability milestones. A low level of pFN was associated with a short milestone-free survival period in PD.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is a major contributor to low back pain (LBP), while LBP is the leading cause of disability. However, the effective pharmacological interventions for IVDD are still lacking. Studies have elucidated that ferroptosis plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of IVDD.

Article Synopsis
  • Rainwater Harvesting Systems (RHS) are effective solutions for urban water shortages, but their performance is affected by the balance between available rainwater and actual water demand, which is often ignored.
  • This study introduces new indices to measure rainwater deficits and surpluses, assessing RHS performance across 16 cities with varied climates and water usage patterns from 1991 to 2020.
  • Findings indicate that increasing tank size improves water savings and reliability of RHS, but optimal performance is still constrained by how well rainwater supply matches the demand, as seen in dry regions like Kashgar, where efficiency remains low.

Background: Numerous studies have demonstrated shared risk factors and pathophysiologic mechanisms between osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and platelets have long been recognized as crucial factors for cardiovascular health. The platelet to HDL-C ratio (PHR) combines platelet count and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level, It is a novel biomarker for metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease.

Objective: Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare myeloid neoplasm with inflammatory characteristics. This study aims to investigate the correlation between sCD25 levels and clinical characteristics, as well as prognosis, in pediatric LCH.

Methods: Serum sCD25 levels were measured in 370 LCH patients under 18 years old using ELISA assays.

Background: The clinical relevance of BRAF-V600E alleles in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and the prognostic impact of the mutants in cell-free (cf) and PBMC DNAs of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) have not been fully clarified in pediatric LCH.

Methods: We retrospectively determined the levels of BRAF-V600E mutation in paired plasma and PBMC samples at the time of diagnosis of LCH. Subsequently, we performed a separate or combined analysis of the clinical and prognostic impact of the mutants.

The transverse leakage of leaky surface acoustic waves (LSAWs) occurs on 42°YX-lithium tantalate substrates (42LT), which increases the insertion loss, narrows the bandwidth and flattens the roll-off of band 40/41 SAW filters and duplexers. In this work, LSAW characteristics with different metal materials and thicknesses are calculated by the finite element method (FEM), which determines the IDT material and thickness used for band 40/41 SAW filter design. To deeply understand transverse leakage and suppress it, the effects of different gap and dummy lengths on transverse leakage are simulated and discussed.

SAW devices with a multi-layered piezoelectric substrate have excellent performance due to advantages such as a high quality factor, , low loss insertion, large bandwidth, etc. Prior to manufacturing, a comprehensive analysis and proper design are essential to evaluating the device's key performance indicators, including the Bode value, bandwidth, and transverse mode suppression. This study explored the performance of SAW resonators employing a 42°Y-X LiTaO (LT) thin-plate-based multi-layered piezoelectric substrate.

Study Design: Retrospective study.

Objectives: This study aimed to develop an initial deep-learning (DL) model based on computerized tomography (CT) scans for diagnosing lumbar spinal stenosis.

Summary Of Background Data: Magnetic resonance imaging is commonly used for diagnosing lumbar spinal stenosis due to its high soft tissue resolution, but CT is more portable, cost-effective, and has wider regional coverage.

Non-point source pollution(NSP) poses a great threat to water ecosystem health. The quantitative estimation of spatial distribution characteristics and accurate identification of critical source areas(CSAs) of NSP are the basis for its efficient and accurate control. The export coefficient model(ECM) has been widely used to assess NSP, but this model should be improved because it ignores pollutant loss in transport processes.

MK-1654 is a fully human monoclonal antibody with YTE mutations currently in phase III clinical trials for prophylactic use in protecting infants from human respiratory syncytial virus infection. We generated anti-idiotype (anti-ID) and anti-YTE antibodies against MK-1654 by panning with MorphoSys HuCal phage libraries, and used the antibodies in the development of MK-1654 pharmacokinetic (PK) and immune response (IR) assays. Detection of MK-1654 in nonhuman primate and human nasal wash samples showed combined use of anti-ID and anti-YTE antibodies can deliver desired sensitivity and accuracy in PK studies.

Article Synopsis
  • Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major cause of severe lung infections globally, and developing an effective vaccine has been challenging, although recent advancements in vaccine technology bring hope for success.
  • The new RSV vaccine V171 combines lipid nanoparticles and mRNA encoding an engineered version of the RSV F protein, which is designed to prompt robust immune responses within cells.
  • Preclinical and Phase I trial results indicate that the mRNA vaccine is promising, and a new cell-based potency assay has been created to support its further clinical development by accurately measuring its effectiveness against a reference standard.

Background: Surgeons often encounter recurrent kyphosis of Cobb angle following thoracolumbar burst fracture surgery. Some factors affecting postoperative correction loss have been studied in previous studies, but few have examined the relationship between laminar fractures and postoperative loss of correction.

Methods: The clinical data of 86 patients with thoracolumbar burst fracture who met the inclusion criteria and were admitted to our Department of Spine Surgery between 2013 and 2020 was retrospectively analyzed.

Polymer-modified cement has found numerous applications due to its excellent tensile strength. When cement was modified with a single polymer, its tensile strength and performance marginally increased. However, when a small amount of the flexible polymer latex was added to cement, the mechanical performance of cement considerably improved.
