Chiral competition between carbohydrates and amino acids is crucial for understanding homochirality emergence in biological systems. In this study, the chiral competitive effect between carbohydrates and amino acids through the host-guest complex formation was investigated by employing amino acid modified pyrene derivatives and naturally occurring γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) as chiral sources, the circularly polarized luminance (CPL) as indicator. Supramolecular complexes of achiral 1-pyrenebutyric acid and L-amino acid-pyrene derivatives with γ-CD exhibited positive CPL signals, which chirality derived from γ-CD's stereochirality.

K-ion batteries face significant challenges due to a severe shortage of active K ions, with cathode materials typically containing less than 70% K ions and first-cycle irreversible reactions consuming up to 20% more. Conventional K-ion compensation methods fail to supply sufficient K ions without compromising cell integrity. To address this, we introduce potassium sulfocyanate (KSCN) as an electrolyte additive capable of delivering up to 100% active K ions.

The synthesis of multi-carbon (C) fuels via electrocatalytic reduction of CO, HO using renewable electricity, represents a significant stride in sustainable energy storage and carbon recycling. The foremost challenge in this field is the production of extended-chain carbon compounds (C, n ≥ 3), wherein elevated CO coverage (θ) and its subsequent multiple-step coupling are both critical. Notwithstanding, there exists a "seesaw" dynamic between intensifying CO adsorption to augment θ and surmounting the C-C coupling barrier, which have not been simultaneously realized within a singular catalyst yet.

This work presents a study of the thermally induced aggregation of perylene diimide (PDI) and naphthalene diimide (NDI) derivatives modified with oligo ethylene glycol (OEG) chains in aqueous solution. Water-soluble and flexible OEG side chains were introduced into the π-core of glutamate-modified NDI and PDI structures, and the aggregation process was modulated by heating or cooling in water. Interestingly, a rare opposite temperature response of fluorescent behavior from the two amphiphilic chromophores was revealed, in which the PDI exhibited fluorescent enhancement, while fluorescent quenching upon temperature increase was observed from the NDI assembly.

In the scenario of device-free localization under multiple effects, the accuracy of localization based on compressed sensing theory is severely affected. Most existing localization techniques directly ignore multiple path effects. However, it is not practical to ignore the multiple path effect due to its high signal strength, which can provide localization information.

Periodontal diseases are initiated by the shift from microbe-host symbiosis to dysbiosis, and the disrupted host response predominantly contributes to tissue destruction. This study investigated whether and to what extent human oral keratinocytes (HOKs) challenged by a periodontal commensal or pathogen could differentially affect the chemotactic activity of THP-1 monocytes. A selected periodontal commensal ( ATCC 10556) and a pathogen ( ATCC 33277) were cultured and inoculated, respectively, into the lower chamber of Transwell® Permeable Supports with HOKs and incubated for 2 h or 18 h at 37°C under appropriate cell growth conditions.
