Background: The Lymphadenectomy in Ovarian Neoplasms (LION) study revealed that systemic lymphadenectomy did not bring survival benefit for advanced ovarian cancer patients with clinically normal lymph nodes and was associated with a higher incidence of operative complications. However, there is no consensus on whether lymphadenectomy has survival benefit or not in early epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC).

Recent studies have demonstrated that antibiotics/or probiotics administration in early life play key roles on modulating intestinal microbiota and the alterations might cause long-lasting consequences both physiologically and immunologically. We investigated the effects of early life ceftriaxone, vancomycin and Bifidobacterium bifidum TMC3115 (TMC3115) treatment on intestinal microbiota and immunity both in neonates and adults even after termination of antibiotics exposure. We found that ceftriaxone and vancomycin, but not TMC3115, significantly altered the intestinal microbiota, serum total IgE level, and the morphology and function of the intestinal epithelium in the neonatal mice.

Mangiferin is a xanthone widely distributed in higher plants showing antioxidative, antiviral, anticancer, antidiabetic, immunomodulatory, hepatoprotective and analgesic effects. In the present study, an ultrasonic-assisted extraction method was developed for the effective extraction of mangiferin from mango leaves. This study was aimed to investigate the influence of short hairpin RNA (shRNA) on proliferation of human leukemia cell line THP-1. The shRNA targeting the site 732-752 of DOT1L mRNA was designed and chemically synthesized, then a single-vector lentiviral, tet-inducible shRNA-DOT1L system (Plko-Tet-On) was generated. Aim: To construct a prokaryotic expression system of a Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) cagA gene fragment and establish enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) for detecting CagA and its antibody, so as to understand the manner in which the infection of CagA-expressing H pylori (CagA(+) H pylori) isolates cause diseases.

Methods: H pylori strains in gastric biopsy specimens from 156 patients with positive results in rapid urease test were isolated. PCR was used to detect the frequency of cagA gene in the 109 H pylori isolates and to amplify a 2 148-bp fragment (cagA1) of cagA gene from a clinical strain Y06.
