The functional interleukin 6 (IL-6) signaling complex is a hexameric structure composed of IL-6, IL-6Rα, and the signaling receptor gp130. There are three different modes of IL-6 signaling, classic signaling, trans-signaling, and trans-presentation, which are not functionally redundant and mediate pleiotropic effects on both physiological and pathophysiological states. Monoclonal antibodies against IL-6 or IL-6Rα have been successfully developed for clinical application.

Introduction And Hypothesis: The negative psychological impact on women with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome is long-lasting, resulting from not only the disease itself, but also the cumbersome and painful treatment process. However, little is known about the postoperative psychological status of these patients and related interventions to improve mental health. Here, in our study, we postulated that mental disorders exist in MRKH patients with a surgical neovagina and that psychological intervention will be helpful.

The decay of algal biomass and aquatic plants in freshwater lakes leads to the overproduction of autochthonous organic matter (OM) and the exhaustion of dissolved oxygen, impacting the microbial community and subsequent biodegradation of emerging contaminants in sediment. This study explored how the microbial processing of aquatic plant- and algal-derived OM (POM and AOM) mediates 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2) biodegradation in the anoxic sediments of Lake Taihu in China. In four months of microcosm incubations, the increased concentrations of protein-like substances in AOM and POM exhibited temporary activation on microbial metabolic enzyme activity (fluorescein diacetate hydrolase and dehydrogenase) and significantly promoted the carbon mineralization with iron reduction (P < 0.

Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR associated protein (Cas)-mediated gene disruption has revolutionized biomedical research as well as plant and animal breeding. However, most disease-causing mutations and agronomically important genetic variations are single base polymorphisms (single-nucleotide polymorphisms) that require precision genome editing tools for correction of the sequences. Although homology-directed repair of double-stranded breaks (DSBs) can introduce precise changes, such repairs are inefficient in differentiated animal and plant cells.

Endocan is known to be a circulating dermatan sulfate proteoglycan that regulates endothelial cell function. Dysregulation of endocan expression is observed not only in the tumor vasculature but also in cancer cells. Accumulating evidence has revealed that disordered endocan facilitates cancer progression via enhancing cancer cell proliferation, cell mobility, and cancer stemness properties.

Gram-negative bacteria experiencing marine habitats are constantly exposed to stressful conditions dictating their survival and proliferation. In response to these selective pressures, marine microorganisms adapt their membrane system to ensure protection and dynamicity in order to face the highly mutable sea environments. As an integral part of the Gram-negative outer membrane, structural modifications are commonly observed in the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) molecule; these mainly involve its glycolipid portion, i.

Study Question: How does ectopic endometrial stromal cell (Ecto-ESC)-derived extracellular vesicular Legumain pseudogene 1 (EV-LGMNP1), a newly identified pseudogene of Legumain (LGMN), contribute to M2-phenotype macrophage polarization, and does it predict recurrence in patients with ovarian endometriosis (EMs)?

Summary Answer: EV-LGMNP1, which is abundant in Ecto-ESCs and serum from ovarian EMs, can direct macrophages towards an M2 phenotype by upregulating LGMN expression and is a promising biomarker for predicting ovarian EMs recurrence.

What Is Known Already: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) can mediate cell-to-cell crosstalk to promote disease progression via cargo molecule transport. Recently, LGMNP1, a newly identified pseudogene of LGMN, has been reported to promote cancer progression by upregulating LGMN.
