Foam shares antibiotic resistomes and bacterial pathogens with activated sludge in wastewater treatment plants.

Foaming is a common operational problem that occurs in activated sludge (AS) from many wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), but the characteristic of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and human pathogenic bacteria (HPB) in foams is generally lacking. Here, we used a metagenomic approach to characterize the profile of ARGs and HPB in foams and AS from full-scale WWTPs receiving pesticide wastewater. No significant difference in the microbial communities was noted between the AS and foam samples.

Oral hygiene care for critically ill patients to prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia.

Background: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is defined as pneumonia developing in people who have received mechanical ventilation for at least 48 hours. VAP is a potentially serious complication in these patients who are already critically ill. Oral hygiene care (OHC), using either a mouthrinse, gel, swab, toothbrush, or combination, together with suction of secretions, may reduce the risk of VAP in these patients.

Our study aimed to investigate the attitudes and perspectives of orthodontic patients during the COVID-19 epidemic in China by analyzing orthodontics-related posts on Sina Weibo (a Chinese counterpart of Twitter).

Longitudinal observational and randomized controlled trials (RCT) are widely applied in biomedical behavioral studies and increasingly implemented in smart health systems. These trials frequently produce data that are high-dimensional, correlated, and contain missing values, posing significant analytic challenges. TRIB3 promotes MYC-associated lymphoma development through suppression of UBE3B-mediated MYC degradation.

The transcription factor MYC is deregulated in almost all human cancers, especially in aggressive lymphomas, through chromosomal translocation, amplification, and transcription hyperactivation. Here, we report that high expression of tribbles homologue 3 (TRIB3) positively correlates with elevated MYC expression in lymphoma specimens; TRIB3 deletion attenuates the initiation and progression of MYC-driven lymphoma by reducing MYC expression. Mechanistically, TRIB3 interacts with MYC to suppress E3 ubiquitin ligase UBE3B-mediated MYC ubiquitination and degradation, which enhances MYC transcriptional activity, causing high proliferation and self-renewal of lymphoma cells.

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as an alternative fuel is increasingly used in mainland China, few reports are however available about emissions from LPG-fueled vehicles. Difenoconazole is a triazole fungicide that is widely used worldwide and has been frequently detected in agricultural soils, but its ecotoxicological effect on soil bacterial community remains unknown. Here, the degradation of difenoconazole and its effect on soil bacterial communities were investigated at three concentrations in five different agricultural soils. Difenoconazole degraded faster in non-sterilized soils than in sterilized soils, suggesting that biodegradation is a major contributor to the dissipation of difenoconazole in soils.

Objectives: To assess and compare the reporting quality of systematic review (SR) abstracts in operative dentistry published before and after the release of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Abstracts (PRISMA-A), and to identify factors associated with reporting quality.

Methods: PubMed was searched for abstracts published during 2010-2012 (Pre-PRISMA period) and 2017-2019 (Post-PRISMA period). Reporting quality was assessed and scored using a modified 13-item PRSIMA-A checklist.
