  • The study aimed to assess the sensorimotor function in patients with unilateral chronic ankle instability (CAI) and compare their abilities to healthy controls, focusing on sensory reweighting and vestibular modulation.
  • Twenty individuals with unilateral CAI and twenty healthy participants underwent various tests to evaluate ankle proprioception, plantar sensation, balance, and motor control, using a mix of analyses to compare the groups.
  • Results indicated that those with CAI had increased sensory thresholds for light touch and two-point discrimination bilaterally, moderate deficits in certain motor control measures, and showed postural instability in balance tests when compared to healthy controls.

Objective: To analyze the genes related to platelet activation in essential thrombocythemia (ET) based on transcriptome sequencing technology (RNA-seq), and to explore the potential targets related to ET thrombosis.

Methods: Blood samples from ET patients and healthy individuals were collected for RNA-seq, and differentially expressed lncRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs were selected to construct a lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory network. Differential mRNAs in the regulatory network were enriched and analyzed using Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG).

The subjectivity of morphological assessment and the overlapping pathological features of different subtypes of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) make accurate diagnosis challenging. To improve the pathological assessment of MPNs, we developed a diagnosis model (fusion model) based on the combination of bone marrow whole-slide images (deep learning [DL] model) and clinical parameters (clinical model). Thousand and fifty-one MPN and non-MPN patients were divided into the training, internal testing and one internal and two external validation cohorts (the combined validation cohort).

  • * Endolysin LysSYL, derived from phage SYL, has potential as an antibacterial agent, but its effectiveness is limited by instability and low availability in acidic environments; however, a self-assembling peptide, L5, can form hydrogels that enhance the bioavailability of LysSYL.
  • * The combination of L5 and LysSYL into hydrogels (L5@LysSYL) not only effectively eliminates MRSA by disrupting bacterial membranes but also promotes wound healing in mice

Article Synopsis
  • Myelofibrosis (MF) is a serious bone marrow disorder, and new treatments called Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKis) have been developed to help manage its symptoms and improve patient comfort.
  • A study analyzed the effectiveness and safety of eleven JAKi treatment options from nine clinical trials, finding that ruxolitinib (RUX) and momelotinib (MMB) were particularly effective in reducing spleen volume and overall symptoms.
  • While RUX and MMB showed promise for symptom relief and safety, the overall survival benefits of newer JAKis compared to RUX were minimal, highlighting the need for personalized treatment approaches based on individual patient characteristics.

Inoculation is widely used in composting to improve the mineralization process, however, the link of fungal inoculant to humification is rarely proposed. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of compound fungal inoculation on humification process and fungal community dynamics in corn straw composting with two different kinds of nitrogen sources [pig manure (PM) and urea (UR)]. Structural equation modeling and random forest analysis were conducted to identify key fungi and explore the fungi-mediated humification mechanism.

China's massive wave of urbanization may be threatened by land subsidence. Using a spaceborne synthetic aperture radar interferometry technique, we provided a systematic assessment of land subsidence in all of China's major cities from 2015 to 2022. Of the examined urban lands, 45% are subsiding faster than 3 millimeters per year, and 16% are subsiding faster than 10 millimeters per year, affecting 29 and 7% of the urban population, respectively.

Understanding large-scale composting under natural conditions is essential for improving waste management and promoting sustainable agriculture. In this study, corn straw (400 tons) and pig manure (200 tons) were composted with microbial inoculants. The thermophilic phase of composting lasted for fourteen weeks, resulting in an alkaline final product.

Background: Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is manifested by sensorimotor impairments in the sprained ankle, including deficits in sensation, motor function, and central integration or processing. These impairments have a significant impact on physical activities and daily life. Recently, some studies have suggested that bilateral deficits were observed in unilateral CAI, but contradictory evidence disputes this finding.

Objectives: To distinguish isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) genotypes and tumor subtypes of adult-type diffuse gliomas based on the fifth edition of the World Health Organization classification of central nervous system tumors (WHO CNS5) in 2021 using standard, high, and ultra-high b-value diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI).

Materials And Methods: This prospective study enrolled 70 patients with adult-type diffuse gliomas who underwent multiple b-value DWI. Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values including ADC, ADC, ADC, ADC, ADC, ADC, and ADC in tumor parenchyma (TP) and contralateral normal-appearing white matter (NAWM) were calculated.

Objectives: we performed this meta- analysis to investigate the impact of insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1) gene rs1801278 on susceptibility to gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Methods: The pooled odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were calculated, and p value is used to determine statistical significance. Sensitivity analysis was performed under three models (dominant, recessive and allele model), and the pooled ORs and 95%CI were calculated.

Vortex dynamics has attracted tremendous attention for both fundamental physics and applications of type-II superconductors. However, methods to detect local vortex motion or vortex jump with high sensitivity are still scarce. Here, we fabricated soft point contacts on the clean layered superconductor 2H-NbSe2, which are demonstrated to contain multiple parallel micro-constrictions by scanning electronic microscopy.

Objective: To understand the biological characteristics of polycythemia vera (PV) patients with myeloid fibroplasia, and further analyze the risk factors affecting myeloid fibroplasia in PV patients, so as to provide ideas for predicting the occurrence of myeloid fibroplasia in PV patients.

Methods: Forty patients with PV in the Department of Hematology, Xiyuan Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences were collected and divided into two groups, with (hyperplasia group) and without (Non-proliferative group) hyperplasia of bone marrow fibers. The differences of basic clinical characteristics, blood routine, biochemistry, bone marrow cells, coagulation function and other indicators between the two groups were compared, and the independent risk factors affecting the proliferation of bone marrow fibrous tissue in PV patients were further analyzed by multivariate regression.
