Recent studies revealed that exogenous glucose increases the efficacy of aminoglycosides in eliminating bacterial persister cells. It was speculated that this increased antimicrobial efficacy is induced by glucose-facilitated uptake of the antibiotics. Here, we examine this hypothesis by using second-harmonic light scattering to time-resolve the transport of an antimicrobial quaternary ammonium compound (QAC), malachite green, across the membranes of living () in the presence of glucose.

  • Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a tough type of breast cancer that doesn't have good ways to predict its behavior, so this study looks at two proteins called EZH1 and EZH2 to figure out how they work in TNBC.
  • The researchers used various tests and comparisons to see how EZH1 and EZH2 were expressed in TNBC tissues, and they also analyzed how these proteins might affect the cancer's growth and spread.
  • Results showed that EZH1 was lower in TNBC, while EZH2 was higher, which linked to certain genes involved in cell cycles and hormone responses, helping create a model to predict patient outcomes based on specific gene signatures.

Assignment and interpretation of the sum-frequency generation vibrational spectra (SFG-VS) depend on the ability to measure and understand the factors affecting the SFG-VS spectral line shape accurately and reliably. In the past, the formulation of the polarization selection rules for SFG-VS and the development of the sub-wavenumber high-resolution broadband SFG-VS (HR-BB-SFG-VS) have provided solutions for many of these needs. However, despite these advantages, HR-BB-SFG-VS have not been widely adopted.

Recent chiral sum-frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy (SFG-VS) measurements revealed that two N-H stretching modes in the 3100-3500 cm range in folded peptide LKβ exhibit chiral characteristics. Here, we report the first phase-resolved subwavenumber high-resolution broadband SFG-VS (HR-BB-SFG-VS) measurement of the folded peptide LKβ. The results show that this chiral N-H band consists of four, instead of two, distinctive peaks, and they are with two groups of opposite spectral phases.
