Article Synopsis
  • Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common, progressive neurodegenerative disorder with both motor and non-motor symptoms, and unfortunately, there is currently no cure or preventative treatment.
  • While existing treatments mainly relieve symptoms but do not stop disease progression, physical therapy, particularly using the Anti-Gravity Treadmill, may offer safer alternatives with potential cardiovascular benefits.
  • This study focuses on reviewing research about the effectiveness of the Anti-Gravity Treadmill for PD patients to support rehabilitation practices and lay groundwork for future studies.

Background: The Lower Quarter Y Balance Test (YBT-LQ) has been widely used to assess dynamic balance in various populations. Dynamic balance in flexible flatfoot populations is one of the risk factors for lower extremity injuries, especially in college populations in which more exercise is advocated. However, no study has demonstrated the reliability of the YBT-LQ in a college student flexible flatfoot population.

Article Synopsis
  • Weak acids like acetic, oxalic, and citric acids exhibit virucidal properties, and this study investigated their effectiveness against different viruses at varying pH levels.
  • Results showed acetic acid effectively inactivated certain viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, particularly at lower pH levels, while the other acids had limited efficacy.
  • The study concludes that virucidal effects of weak acids are influenced by factors beyond just pH, indicating a more complex mechanism at play.

In Japan, tick-borne viruses such as tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) and severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus have been identified in humans, animals, and ticks. In addition, novel tick-borne viruses have been isolated from ticks in Japan. This study aimed to determine the seroprevalence of TBEV and novel viruses, particularly Tofla virus (TFLV), Kabuto Mountain virus (KAMV), and Muko virus (MUV) in wild boar in Nagasaki, Japan.

The concept of Ecosystem Service (ES) has provided an underpinning framework for ecological restoration research and applications. Ecological restoration is a corrective intervention that aims to reverse land degradation and to contribute to the 2030 Global Sustainable Development goal of Land Degradation Neutrality. It is critical to investigate the long-term effects of ecological restoration and land use change on ESs and ES interactions (synergies or trade-offs) to better understand the mechanisms supporting this goal.
