The clinical efficacy of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy is significantly compromised in the metabolically disordered tumor microenvironment (TME), posing a formidable challenge that cannot be ignored in current antitumor strategies. In this study, TME-responsive nanoparticles (HMP1G NPs) loaded with 1-methyltryptophan (1-MT; an indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 [IDO1] inhibitor,) and S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO; a nitric oxide donor) is developed to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of 1-MT-mediated ICB. The HMP1G NPs responded to H and glutathione in the TME, releasing Mn, GSNO, and 1-MT.

The polarization splitter-rotator (PSR) is a key device for polarization processing in polarization diversity systems, which has wide applications in achieving polarization independence and mixed multiplexing. However, it remains a significant challenge to simultaneously achieve a better balance in bandwidth, crosstalk (CT), polarization extinction ratio (PER), and compact footprint of the PSR. In this article, a photonic crystal nanobeam (PCN) structure is introduced to PSR for large bandwidth and compact size, with a device length of only 104 µm.

Extramural venous invasion (EMVI) detected by computed tomography has been identified as an independent risk factor for distant metastasis in patients with advanced gastric cancer (GC). Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are critical for remodeling the tumor microenvironment in GCs. Here, we report that MFAP5+ CAFs promote the formation of EMVI imaging in GC.

The integrated optical delay line plays a crucial role in microwave photonic chips. Continuous tunability is a growing trend in filtering and beamforming techniques of microwave photonics. Based on the silicon platform, we present and experimentally demonstrate an integrated continuously optical tunable delay line (OTDL) chip, which contains a 4-bit optical switched delay line (OSDL) and a thermally tunable delay line based on grating-assisted Contradirectional coupler (CDC).

We propose a low loss, wideband silicon transverse magnetic (TM) polarizer with high polarization extinction ratio and low reflection based on subwavelength grating. By arranging and optimizing a mutually perpendicular subwavelength grating with different duty cycles as the core and cladding, efficient waveguiding and radiation can be achieved for the TM and transverse electric (TE) injection, respectively. In simulation, the proposed TM polarizer has a footprint of 40µ×16.

All-solid-state lithium batteries with polymer electrolytes suffer from electrolyte decomposition and lithium dendrites because of the unstable electrode/electrolyte interfaces. Herein, a molecule crowding strategy is proposed to modulate the Li coordinated structure, thus in situ constructing the stable interfaces. Since 15-crown-5 possesses superior compatibility with polymer and electrostatic repulsion for anion of lithium salt, the anions are forced to crowd into a Li coordinated structure to weaken the Li coordination with polymer and boost the Li transport.

Efficient operation of control systems in robotics or autonomous driving targeting real-world navigation scenarios requires perception methods that allow them to understand and adapt to unstructured environments with good accuracy, adaptation, and generality, similar to humans. To address this need, we present a memristor-based differential neuromorphic computing, perceptual signal processing, and online adaptation method providing neuromorphic style adaptation to external sensory stimuli. The adaptation ability and generality of this method are confirmed in two application scenarios: object grasping and autonomous driving.

The silicon thermo-optic switch (TOS) is one of the most fundamental and crucial blocks in large-scale silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs). An energy-efficient silicon TOS with ultrahigh extinction ratio can effectively mitigate cross talk and reduce power consumption in optical systems. In this Letter, we demonstrate a silicon TOS based on cascading Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZIs) with spiral thermo-optic phase shifters.

Article Synopsis
  • This study analyzed clinical data from 91 patients with T3 glottic laryngeal cancer to determine how different tumor invasion patterns affect prognosis after surgery.
  • Results indicated that posterior tumor invasion is linked to more complications and worse survival outcomes compared to anterior invasion, especially regarding laryngeal stenosis after partial laryngectomy.
  • The findings suggest that while partial laryngectomy can provide similar oncological results as total laryngectomy, further classification of tumor invasion patterns could help tailor treatment plans for better patient outcomes.

Bandpass microwave photonic filter (MPF) can be achieved based on the well-known phase to intensity conversion method by using phase modulation and single micro-ring resonator (MRR) notch filter. Since MRR could introduce residual phase in handling one optical sideband, the out-of-band radio frequency (RF) rejection ratio and the shape factor of the bandpass MPF are very limited. Here, by introducing another MRR to handle the other optical sideband, the residual phase can be greatly suppressed, thus the filter's performance can be greatly improved.
