Seasonal epidemics of influenza viruses are responsible for a significant global public health burden. Vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent infection; however, due to the persistence of antigenic drift, vaccines must be updated annually. The selection of vaccine strains occurs months in advance of the influenza season to allow adequate time for production in eggs.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are 2D materials in which the layers are stacked together by van der Waals forces. Although TMDs are expected to be promising for electronic applications, forming a uniform electrode on them is challenging because of the low adhesion forces between metals and TMDs. This study focuses on improving the quality of metal electrodes by introducing atomic H to create surface defects, using Ni on WS as an example.

The preceding study observed that yeast β-glucan supplementation enhanced intestinal health and augmented disease resistance in pearl gentian grouper (Epinephelus lanceolatus♂ × Epinephelus fuscoguttatus♀), which occurred concurrently with the activation of the nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB) signaling pathway. Thus, we hypothesized that β-glucan improves intestinal health in grouper by modulating the NFκB pathway. Accordingly, the present study examined the effects of NFκB pathway disruption using a specific inhibitor on the intestinal health of pearl gentian grouper that had been injected with β-glucan.

Pancreatic β-cell damage mediated by apoptosis is believed to be a main trigger of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), which is proposed as an organ-specific autoimmune disease mediated by T cells. Nonetheless, the fundamental origins of T1DM remain uncertain. Here, we illustrate that an increase in PLAGL1 expression induces β-cell apoptosis, as evidenced by mitochondrial membrane impairment and nucleolar degradation.

Rapid bulk charge recombination and mediocre surface catalytic sites harshly restrict the photocatalytic activities. Herein, the aforementioned concerns are well addressed by coupling macroscopic spontaneous polarization and atomic-site engineering of CdS single-crystal nanorods for superb H photo-production. The oriented growth of CdS nanorods along the polar axis, vectorially superimposing substantial polar units with orderly arrangement, renders a strong polarization electric field (20.

Metal sites at the edge of the carbon matrix possess unique geometric and electronic structures, exhibiting higher intrinsic activity than in-plane sites. However, creating single-atom catalysts with high-density edge sites remains challenging. Herein, the hierarchically ordered pore engineering of metal-organic framework-based materials to construct high-density edge-type single-atomic Ni sites for electrochemical CO reduction reaction (CORR) is reported.

The electrochemical performances of TiCT MXene are severely restricted by the easy oxidation and restacking. Herein, tannic acid (TA) is introduced into TiCT dispersion, and the mixed dispersion is further subjected to a simple hydrothermal treatment to prepare the hydrothermal TiCT and TA composite (h-TiCT@h-TA). Due to the decomposition of TA into gallic acid (GA), hydrothermal TA (h-TA) is a mixture of TA and GA.

The miniaturization of electronic devices is important for the development of high-density and function-integrated information devices. Atomic-point-contact (APC) structures refer to narrow contact areas formed by one or more atoms between two conductive electrodes that produce quantum conductance effects when the electrons pass through the APC channel, providing a new development path for the miniaturization of information devices. Recently, nanoionics has enabled the electric field reconfiguration of APC structures in solid-state electrolytes, offering new approaches to controlling the quantum conductance states, which may lead to the development of emerging information technologies with low power consumption, high speed, and high density.

The electrocatalytic carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide reduction reaction (CORR or CORR) features a sustainable method for reducing carbon emissions and producing value-added chemicals. However, the generation of C products with higher energy density and market values, such as n-propanol, remains highly challenging, which is attributed to the unclear formation mechanism of C versus C products. In this work, by the Tafel slope analysis, electrolyte pH correlation exploration, and the kinetic analysis of CO partial pressure fitting, it is identified that both n-propanol and C products share the same rate-determining step, which is the coupling of two C intermediates via the derivation of the Butler-Volmer equation.

Rechargeable zinc-air batteries (ZABs) are viewed as a promising solution for electric vehicles due to their potential to provide a clean, cost-effective, and sustainable energy storage system for the next generation. Nevertheless, sluggish kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) at the air electrode, and low power density are significant challenges that hinder the practical application of ZABs. The key to resolving the development of ZABs is developing an affordable, efficient, and stable catalyst with bifunctional catalytic.
