Advancements in satellite and aerial imagery technology have made it easier to obtain high-resolution remote sensing images, leading to widespread research and applications in various fields. Remote sensing image semantic segmentation is a crucial task that provides semantic and localization information for target objects. In addition to the large-scale variation issues common in most semantic segmentation datasets, aerial images present unique challenges, including high background complexity and imbalanced foreground-background ratios.

Extracting the flight trajectory of the shuttlecock in a single turn in badminton games is important for automated sports analytics. This study proposes a novel method to extract shots in badminton games from a monocular camera. First, TrackNet, a deep neural network designed for tracking small objects, is used to extract the flight trajectory of the shuttlecock.

A new type of dual Mach-Zehnder interferometer (DMZI) scheme is presented to eliminate the polarization induced fading usually encountered in fiber-optic intrusion detection systems that use DMZIs. With such a new optical scheme, two identical signal waveforms with only a time delay that corresponds to the location of intrusion can always be obtained without using a polarization control loop. In the study, we also present a new algorithm for locating the intrusion-induced disturbance on the fiber.

Background: Despite a rising incidence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in Taiwan, the clinical presentation of IBDs in this population has yet to be well characterized. Therefore, the aim of our study was to identify and describe the clinical features of gastrointestinal (GI) complications and extraintestinal manifestations (EIMs) of IBDs in the Taiwanese population.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study between 1998 and 2011, with relevant medical information extracted from the National Health Insurance Research Database.

Background And Objectives: Fast-food consumption has greatly increased in Taiwan. Frequent fast food intake is associated with both allergy and obesity. The aim of this study was to describe fast food habit changes, and to assess the relationship between fast food intake and the risk of functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) among Taiwanese adolescents.

In this paper, we present a reliable and robust biometric verification method based on bimodal physiological characteristics of palms, including the palmprint and palm-dorsum vein patterns. The proposed method consists of five steps: (1) automatically aligning and cropping the same region of interest from different palm or palm-dorsum images; (2) applying the digital wavelet transform and inverse wavelet transform to fuse palmprint and vein pattern images; (3) extracting the line-like features (LLFs) from the fused image; (4) obtaining multiresolution representations of the LLFs by using a multiresolution filter; and (5) using a support vector machine to verify the multiresolution representations of the LLFs. The proposed method possesses four advantages: first, both modal images are captured in peg-free scenarios to improve the user-friendliness of the verification device.

This study evaluated the magnitude of potential neutron yield and induced radioactivity of two new accelerators in Taiwan: a 235-MeV proton cyclotron for radiation therapy and a 3-GeV electron synchrotron serving as the injector for the Taiwan Photon Source. From a nuclear interaction point of view, neutron production from targets bombarded with high-energy particles is intrinsically related to the resulting target activation. Two multi-particle interaction and transport codes, FLUKA and MCNPX, were used in this study.

Purpose: Sciatic neuropathy is a rare but serious complication of cardiac surgery. Neuropathic pain following nerve injury can be severely debilitating and largely resistant to treatment. We present a case of this complication where ultrasound-guided perineural steroid injection at the site of the sciatic nerve injury provided excellent pain relief and facilitated subsequent rehabilitation.

We present an automatic vehicle detection system for aerial surveillance in this paper. In this system, we escape from the stereotype and existing frameworks of vehicle detection in aerial surveillance, which are either region based or sliding window based. We design a pixelwise classification method for vehicle detection.
