Psychosocial short stature with psychosis: a case report.

Objective: Our objective was to report and describe a case of psychosocial short stature in an adolescent girl with psychotic features. Psychosocial short stature is a rare condition in which emotional stress or deprivation in childhood profoundly reduces growth, leading to persistent short stature. This disorder is variably known as psychosocial dwarfism, hyperphagic short stature or maternal deprivation dwarfism.

Oxytocin treatment in pediatric populations.

The role of endogenous oxytocin as neuromodulator of birth, lactation and social behaviors is well-recognized. Moreover, the use of oxytocin as a facilitator of social and other behaviors is becoming more and more accepted. Many positive effects have been attributed to intranasal oxytocin administration in animals and humans; with current research highlighting encouraging advances in its potential for use in mental health disorders.

Emerging psychosis in adolescents--a practical guide.

Background: Emerging psychosis is a challenging presentation for the general practitioner as there is disagreement in the literature about classification and appropriate treatment protocols.

Objective: This paper highlights three main issues in primary care: recognising early signs of emerging psychosis, and how and when to refer patients; complexities associated with comorbid substance use; and management when the patient is referred back to primary care in the post-acute phase.

Discussion: Emerging psychosis is a complex presentation that warrants a considered approach right from the initial assessment.
