We assessed the outcomes of ASUC, identified the risk factors for colectomy, and compared colectomy rates between the pre-biologics and post-biologics eras in Taiwan.
Methods: The patients with an ASUC diagnosis between January 2013 and March 2022 at 5 tertiary medical centers were retrospectively analyzed.
Background: The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) provides risk estimates of postoperative complications. While several studies have examined the accuracy of the ACS-Surgical Risk Calculator (SRC) within a single specialty, the respective conclusions are limited by sample size. We sought to conduct a meta-analysis to determine the accuracy of the ACS-SRC among various surgical specialties.

This study aims to demonstrate the pre-clinical efficacy and safety of extracellular vesicles (EVs) loaded with VEGF-A mRNA for the treatment of ischaemic vascular disease.
Methods: After encapsulation of full-length VEGF-A mRNA into fibroblast-derived EVs via cellular nanoporation (CNP), collected VEGF-A EVs were delivered into mouse models of ischaemic injury.
Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) significantly impacts cattle worldwide, causing respiratory, gastrointestinal, and reproductive disorders that lead to substantial economic losses. Despite its high global prevalence and various genotypes, the infection status of BVDV in Taiwan has not been reported. This study conducted large-scale surveillance in 2014, analyzing 460 bovine serum samples collected from 49 dairy herds across Taiwan.

Early initiation of S/V is recommended, yet no practical tool currently exists to effectively communicate its benefits to outpatients or assess patient stability before S/V initiation during hospitalization.
Methods: We collected data retrospectively from 527 HFrEF patients who started S/V between March 2017 and January 2020 at the National Taiwan University Hospital, with follow-up through September 2022.
Background And Aims: Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP1RAs) can cause delayed gastric emptying, raising concern for retained gastric contents (RGCs) during endoscopy and adverse anesthesia events. We aimed to determine associations between GLP1RA and endoscopy and anesthesia outcomes.
Methods: This single-center retrospective cohort study examined patients prescribed GLP1RA who underwent outpatient endoscopy stratified by exposure at the time of endoscopy.
Objective: The study aims to systematically characterize the effect of CT parameter variations on images and lung radiomic and deep features, and to evaluate the ability of different image harmonization methods to mitigate the observed variations.
Approach: A retrospective in-house sinogram dataset of 100 low-dose chest CT scans was reconstructed by varying radiation dose (100%, 25%, 10%) and reconstruction kernels (smooth, medium, sharp). A set of image processing, convolutional neural network (CNNs), and generative adversarial network-based (GANs) methods were trained to harmonize all image conditions to a reference condition (100% dose, medium kernel).
Cordycepin, known for its tumor-suppressive and antiviral properties, has garnered attention due to its therapeutic and biological potential. Current Cordyceps militaris - based cordycepin production methods involve time-consuming and cost-intensive solid-state fermentation. Using an internet of things (IoT) architecture, we developed an active air-feed regulation fermentation system (AAFRFS) to detect CO2 emitted during C.

Combining cycling with interactive boxing offers an innovative and interesting dual-task training to challenge both physical and cognitive skills. This study investigated the effects of interactive boxing-cycling on this population.

Background: The use of EAS in individuals with residual hearing is becoming increasingly common in clinical settings. Ongoing research has explored the characteristics of EAS-induced responses in hearing cochleae.
Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Kochiae Fructus, the ripe fruit of Kochia scoparia, is a traditional Chinese medicine commonly used to treat eye discomforts and vision problems. Although Kochiae Fructus is mentioned in many classical Chinese medical texts, its protective effects and the roles of its active phytochemicals in eye treatment still lack scientific exploration.
Aim Of The Study: This study aimed to clarify the protective effects and identify the active fractions and compounds of Kochiae Fructus against oxidative stress-induced retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cell death.
Purpose: Cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA) has significantly advanced the visualization of cardiac structures, particularly valves. We assessed the diagnostic performance of CCTA in diagnosing the most common disorders affecting the aortic valves requiring surgery-papillary fibroelastoma, infective endocarditis, and degeneration.
Methods: This retrospective study included patients who underwent aortic valve resection between 2016 and 2023 and had a preceding CCTA.
Specialty coffee, typically lightly roasted, is valued for its unique fruity aroma. However, the fermentation process poses a risk of contamination with ochratoxin-producing fungi. This study aimed to select wild yeast strains capable of contributing distinctive flavor profiles while inhibiting the growth of ochratoxin-producing fungi.

To help address conformational sampling problems when simulating many relative binding free energies, we developed a novel method termed multiple topology replica exchange of expanded ensembles (MT-REXEE). This method enables parallel expanded ensemble calculations, facilitating iterative RFE computations while allowing conformational exchange between parallel transformations.

Environmental chemicals and toxins are known to impact human health and contribute to cancer developments. Among these, genotoxins induce genetic mutations critical for cancer initiation. In the liver, proliferation serves not only as a compensatory mechanism for tissue repair but also as a potential risk factor for the progression of premalignant lesions.

Background: Cancer has consistently been the leading cause of death worldwide, with head and neck cancer (HNC) being one of the top ten causes of cancer-related death. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), in particular, is a cancer that is unique to East Asia. Numerous studies have shown that the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA load and the systemic immune inflammation (SII) index can serve as prognostic indicators for NPC patients.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe Jun dimerization protein (Jdp2) gene is active in mouse cerebellar granule cells and its protein product plays a crucial role in the formation of the cerebellum lobes through programmed cell death. However, the role of Jdp2 in cellular differentiation and pluripotency in the cerebellum, and the effect of the antioxidation reaction on cell plasticity, remain unknown. N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) induced the early commitment of the differentiation of granule cell precursors (GCPs) to neurons, especially Purkinje cells, via the γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptor α6 subunit (Gabra6) axis; moreover, Jdp2 depletion enhanced this differentiation program of GCPs.
