Background: The Advanced Cardiac Therapies Improving Outcomes Network (ACTION) began in 2018 as a collaborative learning health system committed to improving outcomes in pediatric heart failure, including children and adults with congenital heart disease, supported with ventricular assist devices (VADs). This report describes patient and device characteristics, and outcomes through 1-year post-implant.
Methods: The ACTION VAD registry report was created from data submitted to the ACTION learning network from April 2018-June 2023.

Colon cancer development may be initiated by multiple factors, including chronic inflammation, genetic disposition, and gut dysbiosis. The loss of beneficial bacteria and increased abundance of detrimental microbes exacerbates disease progression. () is a human gut microbe, and its colon colonization is enhanced by a seaweed-supplemented diet.

This retrospective study sought to identify the optimal interval from diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) to surgery to reduce mortality.
Methods: We evaluated adult patients with early-stage NSCLC who underwent upfront surgical resection between 2009 and 2019 using institutional data.
Background: Coadministration of a respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine with seasonal influenza or SARS-CoV-2 vaccines could reduce health-care visits and increase vaccination uptake in older adults who are at high risk for severe respiratory disease. The RSV mRNA-1345 vaccine demonstrated efficacy against RSV disease with acceptable safety in the ConquerRSV trial in adults aged 60 years and older. We aimed to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of mRNA-1345 coadministered with a seasonal influenza vaccine or SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine.

This tunable structural switching has made the i-motif a useful platform for designing pH-responsive nanomaterials. Despite the widespread application of i-motif DNA constructs as biomolecular switches, the mechanism of i-motif folding on the atomic scale has yet to be established.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) modulate immunity via IDO but also suppress IFN-γ. While MSC IDO induction by IFN-γ is established, other drivers in this immunosuppressive setting remain unknown.

Methods: From 2017 to 2019, participants in the RV254/SEARCH010 acute HIV cohort answered questions every 24 weeks about drug use and sexual behaviors. Longitudinal trends were assessed using the χ2 test for trend.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is an immune response syndrome characterized by excessive inflammation and tissue destruction. A limited number of cases involving HLH patients with concomitant multiple myeloma (MM), leading to significant mortality, have been documented, underscoring the importance of timely diagnosis. We present the case of a 78-year-old previously healthy male admitted to our hospital with a newly diagnosed MM.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) play important roles in the occurrence, development, recurrence, and metastasis of CRC. The molecular mechanism regulating the development of colorectal CSCs remains unclear.

We aimed to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of three next-generation seasonal influenza mRNA vaccines with different compositions that encode for haemagglutinins of multiple A/H3N2 strains, with or without the B/Yamagata strain, in adults.
Methods: This randomised, open-label, phase 1/2 trial enrolled healthy adults aged 50-75 years across 22 sites in the USA.
Introduction: Advance medical directives (AMD) are statements made by individuals indicating the life-sustaining treatment that they would refuse in the future when they lost their mental capacity for medical decisions. While the proposal for the AMD legislation is ongoing locally in Hong Kong SAR, there are limited reviews on the clinical outcomes associated with it.
Objective: To provide a comprehensive review on clinical outcomes of signed AMD.
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an increasingly diagnosed cancer that kills 90% of afflicted patients, with most patients receiving palliative chemotherapy. We identified neuronal pentraxin 1 (NPTX1) as a cancer-secreted protein that becomes overexpressed in human and murine PDAC cells during metastatic progression and identified adhesion molecule with Ig-like domain 2 (AMIGO2) as its receptor. Molecular, genetic, biochemical, and pharmacologic experiments revealed that secreted NPTX1 acts cell-autonomously on the AMIGO2 receptor to drive PDAC metastatic colonization of the liver-the primary site of PDAC metastasis.

Methods: This study investigated the correlation between interaction behaviors and creativity, both individual- and team-level, among nursing students. In this cross-sectional quantitative study, data were obtained from self-reported questionnaires.
The Soudan Underground Mine State Park, found in the Vermilion Iron Range in northern Minnesota, provides access to a ~ 2.7 billion-year-old banded iron formation. Exploratory boreholes drilled between 1958 and 1962 on the 27th level (713 m underground) of the mine intersect calcium and iron-rich brines that have recently been subject to metagenomic analysis and microbial enrichments.

The kinetic analysis of the XSS ubiquitin signals showed that the protein unfolds through a two-state process, independent of the presence of destabilizing salts. In order to characterize the ensemble of unfolded states in atomic detail, the experimental XSS results were used as a constraint in the MD simulations through the incorporation of x-ray scattering derived potential to drive the folded ubiquitin structure toward sampling unfolded states consistent with the XSS signals.

Objective: To evaluate comorbidities associated with HF in patients with CHD with a goal of identifying potentially modifiable risk factors that may reduce HF-associated morbidity and mortality.
Methods: Five surveillance sites in the United States linked population-based healthcare data and vital records.
