Background: Premature and small-for-gestational-age (SGA) infants tend to have long-term growth morbidities such as short stature, failure to thrive, and obesity. Although most of these infants show catch-up growth at 2-4 years of age, they are still more susceptible to childhood obesity and related metabolic disorders. Those who fail to achieve catch-up will suffer from pathological short stature and neurodevelopmental impairment through adulthood.

Several studies have indicated that lipoproteins might contribute to the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). In this population-based retrospective cohort study, patients with hyperlipidemia were divided into two groups (study groups I and II) based on whether or not they were receiving antihyperlipidemic agents. The comparison group included patients without hyperlipidemia who were randomly selected and matched with study group II patients.

Although a few large-scale studies have investigated multilevel anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and laminoplasty (LAMP) and their related complications for cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM), the optimal surgical intervention remains controversial. Therefore, we compared their 30 days of postoperative complications. Through the 2010-2019 ACS NSQIP Participant Use Data Files, we estimated the risk of serious morbidity, reoperation, readmission, mortality, and other postoperative complications.

To investigate the association between statin use and risk of gout in patients with hyperlipidemia. In this population-based retrospective cohort study, patients ≥20 years and diagnosed as having incident hyperlipidemia between 2001 and 2012 were identified from the 2000 Longitudinal Generation Tracking Database in Taiwan. Regular statin users (incident statin use, having 2 times and ≥90 days of prescription for the first year) and two active comparators [irregular statin use and other lipid-lowering agent (OLLA) use] were compared; the patients were followed up until the end of 2017.

Article Synopsis
  • Cysteinyl leukotriene receptor antagonists (LTRAs) like montelukast and zafirlukast are FDA-approved to treat children's asthma and allergic conditions, but their link to Tourette syndrome (TS) in kids is explored in this study.
  • The research analyzed medical records of nearly 27,000 children under 18 who were treated for allergic diseases and asthma between 2005 and 2018, comparing those on LTRAs with those not on the medication.
  • Findings revealed that children using LTRAs had a significantly higher risk of developing TS compared to non-users, highlighting the need for further study on the neuropsychiatric impacts of these drugs.

Background: Inappropriate cycling positions may affect muscle usage strategy and raise the level of fatigue or risk of sport injury. Dynamic bike fitting is a growing trend meant to help cyclists select proper bikes and adjust them to fit their ergometry. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the "knee forward of foot" (KFOF) distance, an important dynamic bike fitting variable, influences the muscle activation, muscle usage strategy, and rate of energy expenditure during cycling.
