Background: Complications arising from transcatheter closure of perimembranous ventricular septal defects (pmVSD) in children, such as residual shunts and aortic regurgitation (AR), have been observed. However, the associated risk factors remain unclear. This study identified risk factors linked with residual shunts and AR following transcatheter closure of pmVSD in children aged 2-12 years.

Background: Gastric IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is rarely encountered in clinical practice, and especially more so among pediatric patients. To our knowledge, this is the first report of IgG4-RD presenting as a calcifying gastric mass in a child. We describe how this entity was difficult to differentiate from a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) imaging-based approaches.

Purpose: Morbid obesity and its related metabolic syndrome are an important health issue. Recently, sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) have accounted for the most popular bariatric surgeries. Valsartan (VST) is a common hypertension drug, and nano-carriers can increase its solubility and bioavailability.

Objective: The role of preoperative N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide level in patient outcomes after the Fontan operation remains unclear.

Methods: The medical records of all patients who underwent their first Fontan operation from June 2011 to October 2019 in our tertiary referral pediatric cardiac center were retrospectively reviewed. Preoperative hemodynamic factors and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide were analyzed to test the association of mortality and morbidity.

Background/purpose: Fontan operation is the standard surgical procedure for achieving long-term survival in single-ventricular complex congenital heart diseases (SV-CHD). We aim to identify the perioperative outcomes and impact of heterotaxy syndrome (HS) after Fontan operation in a tertiary pediatric cardiology center.

Methods: Medical records were reviewed for all patients who received Fontan operation and who were born between 1997 and 2017 in our institution.

Background: Heterotaxy syndrome is likely to involve arrhythmias from associated conduction system abnormalities, which are distinct in different subtypes of isomerism and may change further after interventions and remodeling.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to understand the risk of arrhythmias and its relation to isomerism subtypes.

Methods: Patients diagnosed between 1980 and 2019 as having heterotaxy syndrome were enrolled and grouped as right atrial isomerism (RAI), left atrial isomerism (LAI), or indeterminate isomerism.

Background/purpose: Outlet-type VSD is frequently associated with aortic valve prolapse that surgery is frequently required. The literature regarding outcomes of transcatheter closure of outlet-type VSDs is scant. This study was conducted to know the safety and efficacy of transcatheter closure of outlet-type ventricular septal defects (VSDs) with Amplatzer Duct Occluder II (ADO II).

Background: Transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is an effective alternative to surgical ligation in preterm infants. However, data on device deformation and risk of left pulmonary artery (LPA) obstruction remain scant. This study describes the outcomes and complications of transcatheter closure of PDA in preterm infants weighing <2500 g.

Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a disease affecting extremely premature infants, results from the disruption of normal pulmonary vascular and alveolar growth. Currently, there is no specific effective treatment. We report a case of a 10-mo-old female infant with BPD, who was admitted because of adenovirus pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) with prolonged venovenous and arteriovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support (total 125 d).

Objectives: To analyze and present the demography, clinical behavior, especially the risk factors of tumor hemorrhage and management of sporadic angiomyolipoma (SAML), tuberous sclerosis complex associated angiomyolipoma (TSCAML) and epithelioid angiomyolipoma (EAML) in our institution.

Methods: A retrospective study of 587 patients who were diagnosed with renal angiomyolipoma in our institution between January 2000 and May 2015 was done. The AMLs were diagnosed by ultrasonography, CT, or MRI.

Tai-Chi-Chuan (TCC) is an exercise of low-to-moderate intensity which is suitable for asthmatic patients. The aim of our study is to investigate improvements of the lung function, airway inflammation, and quality of life of asthmatic children after TCC. Participants included sixty-one elementary school students and they were divided into asthmatic ( = 29) and nonasthmatic ( = 32) groups by the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) questionnaire.
