Introduction: The numbers of vessels obstructed in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) is an important prognostic factor. Pulse wave velocity (PWV), ankle-brachial index (ABI) and the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) are associated with increasing CAD risks; however, the association between the numbers of vessels obstructed and PWV, ABI and eGFR is not clear.
Methods: PWV, ABI and eGFR of 58 patients underwent coronary angiography for angina pectoris and acute coronary syndrome were measured.
The design, synthesis, and self-assembly of a series of precisely defined, nonspherical, polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-based molecular Janus particles are reported. The synthesis aims to fulfill the "click" philosophy by using thiol-ene chemistry to efficiently install versatile functionalities on one of the POSS cages. In such a way, both the geometrical and chemical symmetries were broken to create the Janus feature.

Mixing core T6, rim T3, and Zn(II) or Cd(II) ions in a stoichiometric ratio (1:6:12) permitted the selective generation of a highly symmetric spoked wheel in 94% isolated yield via geometric and thermodynamic control. The products were characterized by a combination of traveling-wave ion mobility mass spectrometry and NMR techniques together with TEM imaging, which agreed with computational simulations.

The addition of POSS in the homogenous PI changes the surface energy of the alignment layer and generates a variable pretilt angle. Experimental results demonstrate that the pretilt angle thetap is a function of the POSS concentration, and can be tuned continuously over the range of 0 degrees
The causes of aortic regurgitation (AR) include rheumatic heart disease, infective endocarditis, and various congenital and degenerative defects. We report an unusual case of AR in a 72-year-old man due to an aortic root pouch. The diagnosis AR was made by cardiac echocardiography, and the cause was revealed by cardiac catheterization and 64-slice cardiac computed tomography.

Purpose: This study investigated the ability to use spatial information in mixed-modulated (MM) sounds containing concurrent frequency-modulated (FM) and amplitude-modulated (AM) sounds by exploring patterns of interference when different modulation types originated from different loci as may occur in a multisource acoustic field.
Method: Interaural delay thresholds were measured from 5 normal-hearing adults for an AM sound in the presence of interfering FM and vice versa as a function of interferer modulation rate. In addition, the effects of near versus remote interferer rates, and fixed versus randomized interferer interaural delay, were investigated.
Background: Cardiac tamponade associated with hypothyroidism has been reported, but few studies address the clinical features. This study aims to identify the patient characteristics and to propose a reasonable clinical approach for hypothyroid cardiac tamponade.
Method: Patients admitted to Chang Gung Memorial Hospital between September 1998 and September 2008 with pericardial effusion secondary to hypothyroidism were enrolled.
Many natural sounds such as speech contain concurrent amplitude and frequency modulation (AM and FM), with the FM components often in the form of directional frequency sweeps or glides. Most studies of modulation coding, however, have employed one modulation type in stationary carriers, and in cases where mixed-modulation sounds have been used, the FM component has typically been confined to an extremely narrow range within a critical band. Background: This study assesses the prognostic values of left ventricular (LV) filling patterns, as determined by tissue Doppler imaging (TDI), on cardiac events in patients with LV systolic dysfunction. Normally observed in patients with an advanced form of cardiac disease, an abnormal diastolic pattern by Doppler echocardiography reflects a poor prognosis. Recent studies using TDI have significantly contributed to efforts to evaluate diastolic function and demonstrate the prognostic importance of TDI-derived indices of the LV function.

These waveguide fields can be engineered through choice of waveguide geometry to exhibit amplitudes as high as 97% that of the dominant transverse field component. We show even larger longitudinal fields created in free space by a terminated waveguide can become the dominant electric field component, and demonstrate E(z) has a large effect on waveguide nonlinearity.
