Endoscopic management of a ureteral obstruction caused by endometriosis: a case report.

Ureteral obstruction secondary to endometriosis is relatively uncommon. We present a 49-year-old female (gravida 3, para 2, abortion 1), who was identified as suffering from right hydronephrosis while undergoing her regular health examination. Retrograde pyelography demonstrated a partial obstruction of the right ureter in the distal third.

The prevalence of and risk factors for androgen deficiency in aging Taiwanese men.

Introduction: Androgen deficiency in aging men has attracted much medical interest. Most studies on androgen deficiency have been conducted in Caucasian populations, and data from other ethnicities are lacking.

Aim: To evaluate the prevalence of and risk factors for androgen deficiency and symptomatic androgen deficiency in Taiwanese men over 40 years old.

Adrenal schwannoma treated with laparoscopic adrenalectomy: a case report.

Schwannoma of the adrenal gland is extremely rare. Here, we report a 49-year-old patient with an adrenal tumor noted incidentally by abdominal ultrasonography while undergoing regular health examination. Retroperitoneal laparoscopic adrenalectomy was performed and the schwannoma was diagnosed by histologic findings and immunohistochemistry.

Impact of hydronephrosis on treatment outcome of solitary proximal ureteral stone after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of hydronephrosis on the treatment outcome of patients with a solitary proximal ureteral stone after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). A total of 182 consecutive patients who underwent ESWL for a solitary proximal ureteral stone of between 5 and 20 mm in size in our institution were included in this study. The degree of hydronephrosis was defined by renal ultrasonography.

Postoperative disseminated intravascular coagulation in a patient with ureteral metastasis from gastric cancer.

A 66-year-old man, with a history of gastric signet ring cell carcinoma, was admitted due to intermittent dull pain in the left lower abdomen for 3 months. Left ureteral obstruction with suspicious tumor encasement and hydronephrosis was found on imaging studies. Endoscopic ureteral biopsy revealed infiltrating high-grade urothelial carcinoma.

Association among metabolic syndrome, testosterone level and severity of erectile dysfunction.

The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of metabolic syndrome (MS) and serum testosterone in patients with erectile dysfunction (ED) and their possible association. A total of 103 men with ED were enrolled. The International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) questionnaire was used to assess erectile condition.

Renal collecting duct carcinoma and concomitant bladder urothelial carcinoma: a case report.

The simultaneous occurrence of renal collecting duct (Bellini duct) carcinoma and bladder urothelial carcinoma is very rare. A 68-year-old female patient with bladder urothelial carcinoma first received transurethral resection of the tumor. Left side nephrouretectomy and transurethral resection of the intramural ureter were performed 8 months later under the diagnosis of concomitant renal pelvic urothelial carcinoma.

Intra- and extra-abdominal actinomycosis mimicking urachal tumor in an intrauterine device carrier: a case report.

Actinomycosis is a rare, chronic suppurative infection caused by the Gram-positive anaerobic filamentous bacterium, Actinomyces israeli. In most cases, the diagnosis is made postoperatively because of its unusual clinical presentation. Abdominal actinomycosis is the second most common site of the disease and may mimic abdominal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease or diverticulitis.

Adult Wilms' tumor with hypospadias and cryptorchidism: a case report.

A 66-year-old patient was seen at the outpatient department with the chief complaints of recent-onset painless gross hematuria, poor appetite and body weight loss. The patient had a history of bilateral orchiectomy for congenital bilateral cryptorchidism. Hypospadias was noted during physical examination.

The Winter procedure as management for prolonged low-flow priapism: a case report.

Priapism is a prolonged penile erection that is not associated with sexual stimulation. Although the time course has not been formally defined, it is usually considered to be one that lasts for more than 4-6 hours. Low-flow (ischemic) priapism is usually associated with sickle cell disease, hemoglobinopathies, neoplastic syndrome, anticoagulant therapy, psychotropic medication or idiopathic causes.

Clinical study of uric acid urolithiasis.

Uric acid urolithiasis develops from various causes. To investigate the clinical and biochemical presentation of patients with uric acid urolithiasis, a retrospective study was designed. A total of 46 cases were enrolled between January 2004 and December 2005.

Treatment of transplant ureteral stricture with Acucise endoureterotomy: case report and literature review.

We report a patient who was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease and who received renal transplantation in her right iliac fossa in 2003. After transplantation, right hydronephrosis was noted on abdominal ultrasonography and right lower ureteral stricture was diagnosed by antegrade pyelography. She received ureter internal stent insertion three times, but hydronephrosis and urinary tract infection recurred after the stent was removed.

Orbital metastasis from urothelial carcinoma of the urinary bladder.

Radical cystectomy with ileal conduit diversion remains the standard treatment for invasive bladder cancer. We report a patient with urothelial carcinoma of the urinary bladder and found metastasis to the orbit post radical cystectomy and ileal conduit diversion presenting as blurred vision and diagnosed by open biopsy. The orbit is an infrequent site of metastasis from bladder cancer cells.

Unusual case of multilocular cystic nephroma treated with nephron sparing technique: a case report.

Multilocular cystic nephroma is an unusual entity of uncertain etiology that can affect children and adults equally. This lesion is believed to be part of a spectrum of renal cystic disorders with multilocular cyst and cystic Wilms' tumor representing the two extremes and usually presents with a benign character. We report a 22-year-old female who presented with a painful right renal mass and gross hematuria.

Spontaneous perirenal hematoma: a case report.

Spontaneous perirenal hematoma is relatively uncommon but may be life threatening. There are some challenges in early diagnosis due to the lack of specific presentations. We report a case of spontaneous perirenal hematoma in a patient who had histories of systemic lupus erythematosus, hypertension, and uremia with hemodialysis, and initially presented with non-specific flank pain.

Primary intrarenal lipoma: a case report.

Fat-containing tumors of the kidneys are not uncommon, but primary intrarenal lipomas are extremely rare, with only 19 documented cases reported to date. In most cases, total nephrectomy is performed. We report on a 71-year-old man with the complaint of epigastralgia.
