Introduction: Heterotopic ossifications (HOs) are a well-known complication following total hip arthroplasty. Yet only little is known about the development of HOs following a femoral fracture and intramedullary stabilization in polytraumatized patients. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate whether the development of HOs is being observed more frequently in patients suffering polytrauma compared to those with single-extremity trauma.

Effect of industrial wastewater treatment system upgrade on the composition of emitted odorants and volatile organic compounds from a cheese production facility.

This study investigates the rarely studied volatile organic compound emissions from a cheese production facility and the impact of its wastewater treatment system upgrade on the composition of emitted odorants. Wastewater grab samples were collected from six separate wastewater channels before (2019) and after (2021) the system upgrade and analyzed for volatile organic compounds, pH, total dissolved solids, and electrical conductivity. Results showed that the channel from hard cheese production in 2021 had the highest number of volatile organic compounds (35), followed by the fresh cheese production channel (22).

25-Year experience with adult polytraumatized patients in a European level 1 trauma center: polytrauma between 1995 and 2019. What has changed? A retrospective cohort study.

Methods: 953 consecutive polytraumatized patients treated at a single-level 1 trauma center between January 1995 and December 2019 were enrolled retrospectively. Polytrauma was defined as AIS ≥ 3 points in at least two different body regions.

Crystal structure of O4-methyl uridine: stacking induced changes in the geometry of the pyrimidine ring and its mutagenic role.

Proton magnetic resonance studies of a series of pyrimidine alpha- and beta-2'-deoxyribosides in 2H2O have been carried out at 250 MHz. The H-H coupling constants and chemical shifts are discussed in terms of the molecular conformation. Methyl substitution at the 6-position of the base leads to rotation from the anti to the syn conformation in both anomeric species.

[Carcinoma of the seminal vesicles].

It is reported on a case of carcinoma of the seminal vesicle in a 32-year-old man. The tumour was diagnosed after complaints lasting 2 months, was removed by operation and underwent a postoperative irradiation. At present the patient is completely symptom-free and without any local recidivations two years after operation.
