On October 25, 1957, the first open heart surgery in hypothermia was performed in Zagreb, at the Department of Surgery, Dr. Ozren Novosel University Hospital (now Merkur University Hospital), in a female patient with pulmonary valve stenosis under the control of the eye and with interruption of venous circulation. It was the first such operation performed in hypothermia not only in Croatia, but probably in the territory of former Yugoslavia.

The paper presents medical and cultural viewpoints on male circumcision throughout history. The shifts in medical perception of its indications, ranging from preventive concepts which advocated it to opposite attitudes recognizing it as a physiological, psychological and ethical disturbance of body integrity, were highlighted. Not only operative techniques play a role in its performance but also impact of cultural circumstances which influence the motivation for its performance.

The authors outlined the geographical distribution of individuals displaying longevity in the Republic of Croatia. Elderly people, aged 80 years and older, have been the subject of this study and were viewed in several aspects including the number of elderly people and age-specific mortality rate by districts. In an introduction the authors take into consideration the term Hydronephrosis and then they reviewed indications for a correction-repair of a pyelo-ureteral segment. There is shortly presented what is to be expected from an "ideal" procedure for a such reconstruction and then the operative technique of Anderson-Hynes method is described. They have operated on 37 patients using this procedure and according to X-ray finding (Degree of dilatation of calices and pyelon) patients were divided into four groups.

Cancer of the prostate is one of the most common malignancies that appear in men, and immediately after the neoplasms in the bronchial tubes and stomach, it is the third most common cause of death in the Socialist Republic of Croatia. According to the anatomic division of the prostate gland (micro-anatomic structure of the gland), in most cases cancer develops in the peripheral zone which is constructed of very small and simple branching canals and small round sinuses whose cells are more regular and lower than those in the central zone. We insist on a classification according to the TNM system, while histologists emphasize the findings of a differentiation of cell "grading.
