Young people aged 18-29 are considered "adult" within the Australian HIV health service context. However, evidence increasingly defines this age group as distinct from the broader adult population such that the needs of young people living with HIV may be overlooked in the context of HIV service design and delivery. This analysis draws on the Young + Positive study, a national study in Australia that documented the perspectives of young people (aged 18-29) living with HIV.

We present a fully automated cryogenic sample insertion and ejection system for use with low-temperature EPR probes. We show how the system can be implemented on a conventional EPR spectrometer and that ejection and insertion is reliably possible at temperatures down to 10 K. Furthermore, we investigate the glass properties of a 0.

Owing to widespread availability of potent and tolerable antiretroviral therapy, life expectancy of people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has significantly increased. Consequently, the population of people with HIV are ageing, with over 50% over the age of 50 years, and it is expected that 25% will be over the age of 65 years by 2030. People diagnosed with HIV at older age tend to have more advanced disease, and may already be experiencing comorbidities that will influence the choice of initial antiretroviral treatment.

Purpose Of Review: Potent, well tolerated and simple to administer antiretroviral therapy (ART) has resulted in significant improvement in life expectancy for people with HIV. The increased lifespan does not necessarily equate to improved healthspan with increased rates of comorbidities, frailty and geriatric syndrome experienced by older people with HIV. This review explores the challenges in prevention and management of multimorbidity and geriatric syndrome with the ultimate goal of improving health and quality of life through holistic care.

While HIV infection and clonal hematopoiesis (CH) have been linked with inflammatory dysregulation and an increased risk of aging-related comorbidities, their relationship with clinical geriatric syndromes has not been well defined. In the Age-related Clonal Haematopoiesis in an HIV Evaluation Cohort (ARCHIVE) study (NCT04641013), we measure associations between HIV and CH and geriatric syndromes. Of 345 participants (176 with HIV and 169 without HIV), 23% had at least one mutation associated with CH: 27% with HIV and 18% without HIV (p = 0.

Background: Upper extremity peripheral neuropathy is a known, but uncommon complication that can occur after shoulder surgery. The incidence rate is well documented, and most of these cases historically have been treated conservatively. However, we hypothesize peripheral compression neuropathy requires a much higher need for surgical decompression than originally reported.

'Jump scares' are particularly robust when visuals are paired with coherent sound. A new study demonstrates that connectivity between the superior colliculus and parabigeminal nucleus generates multimodal enhancement of visually triggered defensiveness, revealing a novel multisensory threat augmentation mechanism.

Background: Lateral epicondylitis is a common cause of elbow pain that is generally self-limiting. For patients who have persistent symptoms refractory to conservative treatment, there is still no clear consensus on the most favorable treatment modality. The purpose of this systematic review was to synthesize the available literature regarding both nonoperative and operative treatment modalities for recalcitrant lateral epicondylitis (RLE) to provide insight into the efficacy of treatment options.

Article Synopsis
  • A study investigated the effect of 96 weeks of rosuvastatin on pulse wave velocity (PWV) in 55 HIV-positive men with moderate cardiovascular risk.
  • Both the rosuvastatin and placebo groups experienced an increase in PWV, showing no significant difference between the two at the end of the study.
  • The results indicated that rosuvastatin did not have a beneficial effect on PWV compared to the placebo after 96 weeks.

Condoms continue to be used by many gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM) to reduce the risk of HIV transmission. However this is impacted by condom failure events, defined here as condom breakage and slippage. In a prospective, observational cohort study of 343 HIV serodiscordant male couples recruited through high HIV caseload clinics and hospitals between 2012 and 2016 in Australia, Brazil, and Thailand, condom failure rates and associated factors were analysed, including with the study partner versus other sexual partners.

Purpose: Distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) injuries can be devastating and challenging to manage. The multiplanar curvature exhibited by the ulna impacts the morphology of the DRUJ, making it difficult to assess through two-dimensional radiographs alone. We used full-length, three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography angiography scans to assess the relationship between ulnar bowing, DRUJ ulnar variance (UV), and sigmoid notch angle.

Population declines were documented in multiple ruminant species in Montana and surrounding states starting in 1995. While weather, food sources, and predation certainly contributed, the declines were often attributed, at least partly, to unexplained factors. Use of teratogenic agrichemicals, notably neonicotinoid insecticides, fungicides, and glyphosate-based herbicides, massively increased regionally in 1994-96.

Background: Medical school clerkship grades are used to evaluate orthopedic surgery residency applicants, however, high interinstitutional variability in grade distribution calls into question the utility of clerkship grades when evaluating applicants from different medical schools. This study aims to evaluate the variability in grade distribution among medical schools and look for trends in grade distribution over recent years.

Methods: Applications submitted to Rush University's orthopedic surgery residency program from 2015, 2019, and 2022 were collected from the Electronic Residency Application Service.

Objectives: People with HIV and extensive antiretroviral exposure may have limited/exhausted treatment options (LExTO) due to resistance, comorbidities, or antiretroviral-related toxicity. Predictors of LExTO were investigated in the RESPOND cohort.

Methods: Participants on ART for at least 5 years were defined as having LExTO when switched to at least two anchor agents and one third antiretroviral (any class), a two-drug regimen of two anchor agents (excluding rilpivirine with dolutegravir/cabotegravir), or at least three nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors.

Objectives: Improved life expectancy has led to an ageing population of people living with HIV in most countries. Research on ageing among people living with HIV has predominantly focused on physical and health-related quality of life rather than multidimensional quality of life. We measured quality of life among older people living with HIV in Australia and identified opportunities to guide the development and implementation of appropriate interventions.

Red rot, caused by , is an important constraint to sugarcane production. In Louisiana, red rot primarily affects planted seed-cane and is more severe when billets (stalk sections) are planted rather than whole stalks. At planting, application of seed-treatment pesticides, particularly a combination of a fungicide and the insecticide thiamethoxam, has improved stand establishment and increased yields in billet plantings in Louisiana.

Introduction: Antiretroviral therapy for people living with HIV-1 must be taken lifelong due to the persistence of latent virus in long-lived and proliferating CD4 T cells. Vitamin D is a steroidal gene transcription regulator which exerts diverse effects on immune and epithelial cells including reductions in CD4 T cell proliferation and improvement in gut barrier integrity. We hypothesised that a high dose of vitamin D would reduce the size of the HIV-1 reservoir by reducing CD4 T cell proliferation.

Despite cancer being a leading comorbidity amongst individuals with HIV, there are limited data assessing cancer trends across different antiretroviral therapy (ART)-eras. We calculated age-standardised cancer incidence rates (IRs) from 2006-2021 in two international cohort collaborations (D:A:D and RESPOND). Poisson regression was used to assess temporal trends, adjusted for potential confounders.
