Eutrophication of water bodies due to excess ammonia nitrogen (NH-N) is harmful to aquatic organisms and human health. In this study, foundry dust (FD) from foundry industry was used to synthesize NaA zeolite to use as an adsorbent to remove NH-N from wastewater. Results demonstrate that FD could be successfully synthesized to form a foundry dust-based NaA zeolite (FZA) through adjustment of the silica-alumina ratio of n (SiO)/n (AlO) at 2 at 95 °C.

Hepatic veno-occlusive disease/sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (VOD/SOS) is a potentially life-threatening complication of hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). This study aimed to determine a blood biomarker signature early post-HCT that identifies patients at high risk for VOD/SOS. A set of 23 plasma biomarkers, selected from the VOD/SOS literature, was measured on days 0, 7, and 14 after myeloablative HCT using blood samples from patients enrolled in the Blood and Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network (BMT CTN) Protocol 1202.

We examined trends from 2000 to 2019 in child pedestrian motor vehicle collision (PMVC) injury rates in Toronto, Canada, to see if injury trends varied by neighbourhood deprivation. This 20-year period was associated with major road safety policy changes in the City. A Poisson regression analysis examined police-reported data on children (age 1-19 years), killed or seriously injured (KSI) PMVC rates, by deprivation status (using the Ontario Marginalization Index), over the period 2000-2019.

Background: Accurate registration between microscopy and MRI data is necessary for validating imaging biomarkers against neuropathology, and to disentangle complex signal dependencies in microstructural MRI. Existing registration methods often rely on serial histological sampling or significant manual input, providing limited scope to work with a large number of stand-alone histology sections. Here we present a customisable pipeline to assist the registration of stand-alone histology sections to whole-brain MRI data.

Purpose: Traditional summary metrics provided by accelerometer device manufacturers, known as counts, are proprietary and manufacturer specific, making them difficult to compare studies using different devices. Alternative summary metrics based on raw accelerometry data have been introduced in recent years. However, they were often not calibrated on ground truth measures of activity-related energy expenditure for direct translation into continuous activity intensity levels.

Introduction: Femoropopliteal and femorodistal bypasses are indicated in the management of severe claudication or critical limb ischaemia. The choice of type of anaesthesia between general anaesthesia (GA) and regional anaesthesia (RA; epidural/spinal) has remained controversial. The study aimed to compare the rates of graft failure, perioperative mortality, and other major complications (including graft failure) associated with GA versus RA for lower limb bypass revascularisation in patients presenting with significant peripheral arterial disease.

COVID-19 and anti-Black violence represent interlocking pandemics animated by necropolitics, the power to determine who lives and who dies. By expanding our understanding of violence to include its structural and cultural forms alongside direct bodily harm, we must also expand our commitment to end violence. Labor educators, organizers, and workers are uniquely positioned to articulate this more expansive definition and advocate for the eradication of violence in all its forms.

Objective: Those with chronic critical illness (CCI) remain dependent on life-sustaining treatments and increasingly reside in long-term care facilities equipped to meet their needs. The nature of family involvement in care remains undetermined thwarting approaches to mitigate poor family outcomes. The research objective was to explicate family involvement in the care of an individual with CCI who resides in long-term care.

Purpose: Patients with cervical cancer who are at high risk for para-aortic lymphatic involvement may receive extended-field chemoradiation (EF-CRT), with inclusion of the para-aortic region. Increased radiation to bone marrow (BM) may heighten hematologic toxicity (HT) and affect timely delivery of chemoradiation. Factors associated with HT in this setting have not been well studied.

Though early intervention can improve outcomes for children with motor disabilities, delays in diagnosis can impact the success of intervention programs. Prior work indicates that spontaneous kicking patterns can be used to model typical infant motor development to assist in the early detection of motor delays. However, abnormalities in spontaneous movements are not well defined or readily observable through traditional functional assessments.

The acquisition of MRI and histology in the same post-mortem tissue sample enables direct correlation between MRI and histologically-derived parameters. However, there still lacks a standardised automated pipeline to process histology data, with most studies relying on manual intervention. Here, we introduce an automated pipeline to extract a quantitative histological measure for staining density (stain area fraction, SAF) from multiple immunohistochemical (IHC) stains.

Family caregivers of patients with cancer provide substantial physical, emotional, and functional care throughout the cancer trajectory. While caregiving can create employment and financial challenges, there is insufficient evidence to inform the development of caregiver-reported outcomes (CROs) that assess these experiences. The study purpose was to describe the occupational and financial consequences that were important to family caregivers of a patient with colorectal cancer (CRC) in the context of public health care, which represent potential considerations for CROs.

Most textbooks and lecturers present Michaelis-Menten kinetics using the equation v = V [S]/(K  + [S]). There are advantages to presenting this relationship in a slightly different form, namely v = V /{1 + (K /[S])}. We articulate advantages for single-substrate reactions and extend the formalism to include the three classes of bi-substrate reactions.

We have observed details of the internal motion and dissociation channels in photoexcited carbon disulfide (CS) using time-resolved x-ray scattering (TRXS). Photoexcitation of gas-phase CS with a 200 nm laser pulse launches oscillatory bending and stretching motion, leading to dissociation of atomic sulfur in under a picosecond. During the first 300 fs following excitation, we observe significant changes in the vibrational frequency as well as some dissociation of the C-S bond, leading to atomic sulfur in the both D and P states.

The age of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) donors and their hematopoietic cell telomere length (TL) might affect recipients' outcomes. Our goals were to examine the possible effect of these donors' factors on the recipients' hematopoietic cell TL and quantify hematopoietic cell TL shortening in the critical first three-month post-HCT. We measured hematopoietic cell TL parameters in 75 recipient-donor pairs, from the Blood and Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network (protocol#1202), by Southern blotting (SB), the Telomeres Shortest Length Assay (TeSLA), and quantitative PCR (qPCR).

Background: Our objective was to identify acetabular fractures in the elderly population (over 60 years of age), treated with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF), and to examine their outcomes, primarily the risk for need for further surgery in the form of a total hip arthroplasty (THA), and factors associated with it. Additional outcomes such as infection, avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head, and heterotopic ossification (HO) were also investigated.

Methods: Following institutional review board (IRB) approval, a retrospective analysis of all consecutive patients presenting to a Level I Trauma Centre over a 13-years period (January 2003-February 2016) was conducted.

Emerging during embryogenesis, the neural crest are a migratory, transient population of multipotent stem cell that differentiates into various cell types in vertebrates. Neural crest cells arise along the anterior-posterior extent of the neural tube, delaminate and migrate along routes to their final destinations. The factors that orchestrate how neural crest cells undergo delamination and their subsequent sustained migration is not fully understood.

We present results from an experimental ion imaging study into the fragmentation dynamics of 1-iodopropane and 2-iodopropane following interaction with extreme ultraviolet intense femtosecond laser pulses with a photon energy of 95 eV. Using covariance imaging analysis, a range of observed fragmentation pathways of the resulting polycations can be isolated and interrogated in detail at relatively high ion count rates (∼12 ions shot). By incorporating the recently developed native frames analysis approach into the three-dimensional covariance imaging procedure, contributions from three-body concerted and sequential fragmentation mechanisms can be isolated.
