Background And Objectives: Faculty members who are underrepresented in medicine (URM) may benefit from mentorship that is designed specifically to meet their unique needs and is focused on improving their career pathways in academic medicine. The Underrepresented in Medicine Mentorship Program (URM-MP) is an academic society-based mentorship program that pairs early career URM faculty with mid- to late-career faculty specifically trained to address URM issues.
Methods: During the first 3 years of the program, mentors received web-based training on addressing oppression and marginalization of URM faculty in academic medicine.

In 2023, the Society for Reproductive Biology met in Brisbane to deliver its largest scientific program to date. Herein, we detail key areas of notable discovery across the reproductive biology and fertility landscapes, as well as pressing areas that require further research. Specifically, we focus on five key themes: the cellular basis of reproduction; environmental impacts on reproduction; inclusivity in reproductive health; reproductive cancers; and evolution of reproduction mechanisms.

However, large, multicentre studies on the prognostic relevance of exercise haemodynamics and its added value to resting haemodynamics are missing.
Patients And Methods: The PEX-NET (Pulmonary Haemodynamics during Exercise Network) registry enrolled patients who underwent clinically indicated right heart catheterisations both at rest and ergometer exercise from 23 PH centres worldwide.
The sperm mitochondrial sheath has proposed functions in structural support and energy production for motility. Here we define coiled coil domain containing protein 112, CCDC112, as crucial for male fertility, specifically in the assembly and function of the mitochondrial sheath. We unveiled a previously unrecognised process of epididymal mitochondrial sheath maturation.

Precise estimates of infection frequency and severity with modern therapies are uncertain. We conducted a retrospective analysis of a prospective cohort enrolled in a Canadian MDS registry and characterized the frequency and severity of infectious complications.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFMyelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are severe myeloid disorders associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Because of patient and disease factors, many older adults are treated as outpatients with less-intensive therapy. Optimal supportive care strategies to minimize bleeding and infectious complications in this patient population have not been systematically evaluated.

This study examined hemp susceptibility to drift of herbicides registered for use in corn and/or soybeans.

Twenty-eight healthy adults underwent SWE assessment of shear wave speed (SWS) and coefficient of variation in SWS (CV-SWS) at three ankle positions (neutral, 10° plantar flexion, and 20° dorsiflexion) and two knee positions (90° flexion and full extension), at two academic sites. Participant positioning for ankle testing differed between sites (prone vs long-sitting)-while knee testing used consistent positioning.

We present 2 patients who developed aortic root thromboembolism and acute coronary occlusions. We additionally present heart transplantation as viable treatment for thromboembolic disease and refractory right ventricular failure.

This relationship extends from the mechanistic and physiological to clinical syndromes, quality of life, and long-term cardiovascular outcomes. The risk factors for AF and HF overlap and create a critical opportunity to prevent adverse outcomes among patients at greatest risk for either condition.

Purpose: Ultrasound shear wave elastography has potential use in assessing tendon tissue; however, reducing measurement variability remains challenging. The primary purpose of this study was to identify the amount of variability accounted for by ultrasound parameter (frequency, harmonics and CrossXBeam) settings on shear wave speed at two testing sites.
Methods: Shear wave elastography images of the Achilles tendon were obtained from individuals with healthy tendons (n = 28) at two testing sites with standardised image acquisition/postprocessing protocols.
Dynein complexes are large, multi-unit assemblies involved in many biological processes via their critical roles in protein transport and axoneme motility. Using next-generation sequencing of infertile men presenting with low or no sperm in their ejaculates, we identified damaging variants in the dynein-related gene AXDND1. We thus hypothesised that AXDND1 is a critical regulator of male fertility.

Objectives: The authors performed 2 complementary secondary analyses of a completed randomized clinical trial: 1) a prespecified per-protocol analysis; and 2) an exploratory dose-based analysis to compare the effect of therapeutic-dose heparin with low- and intermediate-dose heparin.
Methods: Patients who received initial anticoagulation dosed consistently with randomization were included.
Experiments on ultrasound propagation through a gel doped with resonant encapsulated microbubbles provided evidence for a discontinuous transition between wave propagation regimes at a critical excitation frequency. Such behavior is unlike that observed for soft materials doped with non-resonant air or through liquid foams, and disagrees with a simple mixture model for the effective sound speed. Here, we study the discontinuous transition by measuring the transition as a function of encapsulated microbubble volume fraction.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to capture current opinion and practice of orthotists on their role in early stroke gait rehabilitation in the United Kingdom.
Methods: An anonymous web-based cross-sectional survey was developed and distributed to Health and Care Professions Council-registered orthotists by the mailing list of the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists professional body in the United Kingdom.
