Here we report the case of a 20-year-old patient who was diagnosed in 2002 with a metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC). He achieved a complete response under cetuximab-based therapy and remains without disease recurrence until now while chemotherapy was discontinued in 2009. The tumor exhibited high level of epidermal growth factor receptor () amplification, no mutation in , or genes and a microsatellite-stable (MSS) phenotype.

Neuroendocrine tumours (NET) are heterogeneous and frequently spread over the body, making their imaging difficult. With this aim, nuclear medicine imaging, using PET or SPECT with different tracers, has been proposed for decades, but there is currently no consensus on the most appropriate technique, even when only considering gastrointestinal NET. The case is presented of a 67year old woman with a well differentiated NET of the ileum with suspected recurrence, which was not detected by any imaging technique except F-FDOPA PET/CT.

Introduction: Prophylactic laparoscopic cholecystectomy remains controversial and has been discussed for selected subgroups of patients with asymptomatic cholelithiasis who are at high risk of developing complications such as chronic haemolytic conditions. Cholelithiasis is a frequent condition for patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). Complications from cholelithiasis may dramatically increase morbidity for these patients.

Background: The aims of this retrospective study were to evaluate laparoscopic triage of patients with advanced ovarian cancer towards primary surgery or neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and to analyze outcome according to the treatment.

Context And Objectives: Fluorodihydroxyphenylalanine-(18F) (FDOPA) positron emission tomography (PET) is a recent imaging modality used to localize endocrine tumors. This study was conducted to evaluate the impact of FDOPA-PET on the management of patients referred for carcinoid or noncarcinoid digestive tumors and the clinical relevance of the treatment decisions based on this examination.

Lipoatrophy is a prevalent side effect of antiretroviral treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Its mechanisms are still disputed but include mitochondrial toxicity and, in particular, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) depletion induced by nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. To obtain an integrated evaluation of the mitochondrial alteration in lipoatrophy, we investigated the DNA, RNA, and protein levels in 15 samples of abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue from HIV-infected patients with peripheral lipoatrophy and compared the results with those for 15 samples from age- and body mass index-matched controls.

In digestive oncology, the most frequent indication for FDG PET, in our experience and as reported in the literature, is the localisation of recurrent colorectal cancer. This molecular imaging method has also been shown to be clinically useful in various other settings, especially for preoperative staging, for colorectal, esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, hepatic and biliary cancers. We also report on current PET practice in two particular cancers: hepatocellular carcinoma, for which other tracers, including fluoromethylcholine-(18F), are being currently evaluated, and gastrointestinal endocrine tumours, which are included in the recent French marketing authorisation of fluoroDOPA-(18F) and which are also potential targets for radiolabelled somatostatin analogues for PET imaging.

A combined strategy of anesthetic and surgical care defines postoperative rehabilitation, which aims to accelerate recovery from surgery, shorten convalescence, and reduce postoperative morbidity. Preoperative and early postoperative oral feeding, a relatively "dry" fluid regimen, and the avoidance of or early removal of drains, gastric tubes and bladder catheters all contribute to decreasing postoperative morbidity after abdominal surgery. Postoperative pain control, prevention of nausea and vomiting, shortening the duration of postoperative ileus, and early ambulation can also help to decrease postoperative morbidity.

Background: The risk of wound metastasis after laparoscopic management of early-stage cervical cancer is well known, but there are few data on peritoneal carcinomatosis of cervical adenocarcinoma.

Case: We report the first case of peritoneal carcinomatosis occurring in a woman with FIGO stage Ib1 cervical adenocarcinoma who underwent laparoscopic type III radical hysterectomy and bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy (sentinel node procedure) followed by vaginal brachytherapy. A peritoneal recurrence was diagnosed 16 months after surgery and was treated with chemotherapy and laparotomy.
