Effect of vitamin C supplementation on oxidative stress and lipid profiles in hemodialysis patients.

Background And Aims: The increase in oxidative stress is the main factor in acceleration of atherosclerosis, leading to death in hemodialysis patients. Vitamin C is one of the most important antioxidants that inhibits lipid peroxidation and improves endothelial function. This study aims to assess the effects of vitamin C supplementation on lipid profiles as well as markers of lipid peroxidation among hemodialysis patients.

Recurrent septicemia in a renal transplant recipient.

The incidence of infection is significantly elevated in renal transplant recipients,but native kidney infection is an uncommon event in these patients. We describe a 52-year-old renal transplant recipient with infection of the native kidneys that had atypical clinical presentation and a unusual course.

Posttransplant diabetes mellitus in kidney allograft recipients at Shaheed Hasheminejad Hospital.

Introduction: Our aim was to evaluate the frequency and risk factors of posttransplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM) at our kidney transplant center, and to compare graft and patient outcomes between the kidney recipients with and without PTDM.

Materials And Methods: We studied 203 kidney transplant recipients with a negative history of diabetes mellitus before transplantation. We examined them for PTDM and made diagnosis on the basis of the American Diabetes Association criteria.
