A novel nanocomposite magnetic hydrogel was synthesized based on κ-carrageenan, acrylic acid, and activated carbon as an absorbent for removing heavy metal ions from aqueous solution. FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and vibration sample magnetometer (VSM) were employed to confirm the structure of the nanocomposite hydrogels. The effects of contact time, pH, particle size, temperature, and metal ion concentration on the metal ion adsorption were investigated.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFCarbon nanotube (CNT)-based hydrogels have recently found a wide variety of applications due to the unique physical and chemical properties of CNTs. CNTs can be used as a nanofiller and/or crosslinker to produce nanocomposite hydrogels with good mechanical and structural properties. In this research, a novel method was reported for producing polyacrylamide (PAM)/oxidized-multiwalled carbon nanotube (O-MWCNT) flakes nanocomposite hydrogel films without using any organic cross-linker or surfactant.

However, unlike the ferrous/ferric system that is active only in acidic condition, the copper ion can operate over a wide pH range as a Fenton-like system. In this research a copper containing hydrogel (Cu/CH) was prepared by loading the Cu ions into a hydrogel based on chitosan, acrylamide (AAM), and acrylic acid (AA), and used for production of hydroxyl radical in a Fenton-like reaction.

The main advantage of the synthesized NCH is the high adsorption of dye due to the large contact area. The structure of the NCH was studied by FT-IR spectroscopy, TEM, and SEM.

In the current research, an analytical method was proposed for the quantitative determination of surface tension of anionic surfactant solutions in the presence of hydrophilic silica nanoparticles using attenuated total reflection Fourier-transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy and chemometric methods. The surface tension behavior of anionic surfactant solutions considerably changes by the addition of silica nanoparticles with different particle size. The spectral data of solutions were used for prediction of surface tension using two calibration methods based on support vector machine regression (SVM-R) as a non-linear algorithm and partial least squares regression (PLS-R) as a linear algorithm.

Although a lot of work has been done in this area, research in this field is still very active and associated with the continuous development of new materials. In the present study full polysaccharide chitosan-agarose (CS-AG) films were produced by reaction of chitosan with periodate activated agarose, followed by reductive amination.

Rapid assessments of SARA analysis of crude oil samples are of substantial value in the oil industry. The conventional SARA analysis procedures were determined with the standards established by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).

Classification based on °API gravity is very important to estimate the parameters related to the extraction, purification, toxicity, and pricing of crude oils. Spectroscopy methods show some advantages over ASTM and API methods for crude oil analysis. The attenuated total reflection Fourier-transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy coupled with chemometric methods has been applied as a quick and non-destructive method for crude oil analysis.

An analytical method was proposed for quantitative determination of rheological properties of polyacrylamide (PAM) solution in the presence of SiO nanoparticle and NaCl. The viscosity of PAM-SiO nanohybrid solution was predicted using attenuated total reflection Fourier-transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy in the wavenumber range of 800-3000 cm and chemometrics methods. Support vector machine regression (SVM-R) as a non-linear multivariate calibration procedure and partial least squares regression (PLS-R) as a linear procedure were applied for calibration.

Inclusion of nano-silver chloride into the superabsorbent hydrogel was utilized for producing the effective dye absorbent. The dye absorption was more than 98% after 5min in a 10ppm aqueous solution at pH=6.
