The first complete measurement of the β-decay strength distribution of _{17}^{45}Cl_{28} was performed at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) with the FRIB Decay Station Initiator during the second FRIB experiment. The measurement involved the detection of neutrons and γ rays in two focal planes of the FRIB Decay Station Initiator in a single experiment for the first time. This enabled an analytical consistency in extracting the β-decay strength distribution over the large range of excitation energies, including neutron unbound states.

Latinx adolescents are overrepresented in the justice system and have high untreated behavioral health needs. We examined the family as well as promotive and inhibitive environments (i.e.

Adolescents involved in juvenile legal system are at increased risk for self-cutting behavior, however, correlates associated with elevated risk remain underresearched, particularly among youth with first involvement with the court. This study utilized an epidemiological two-year longitudinal study involving 401 adolescents at first contact with the court (M = 14.47; SD = 1.

Objective: Latinx youth who have experienced caregiver deportation show higher rates of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and internalizing symptoms compared to Latinx youth who have not. Thus, there is a need for culturally and linguistically appropriate therapeutic approaches to address psychiatric needs related to caregiver deportation. Positive Adaptations for Trauma and Healing (PATH) is a manualized 10-week group therapy for Latinx youth and their caregivers that integrates trauma-informed interventions with positive psychology and resilience interventions.

We conducted a narrative review of literature focused on Latinx youth in the Juvenile Justice System (JJS). The goal of this review was to identify the behavioral health needs and social and cultural factors that place Latinx youth at disproportionate risk for contact and entrenchment with the JJS. Ecodevelopmental Theory (ET) was used as the guiding framework for this review, and a total of 16 peer reviewed articles from Embase, PsychINFO, and Pubmed were collected, analyzed, and summarized.

This study examines the prevalence of trauma exposure and its association with psychiatric symptoms, substance use, and sexual activity among First-Time Offending, Court-Involved Non-Incarcerated (FTO-CINI) Latinx youth. Latinx youth (N = 181), ages 12-18, were recruited from a family court in the Northeastern region of the United States as part of a longitudinal cohort study of 423 FTO-CINI youth. Baseline data on trauma exposure and symptoms, psychiatric symptoms, substance use (alcohol/marijuana), and sexual activity among the Latinx sample were analyzed by age, gender, and offense type (status versus delinquent).

Objective: This study examines the acceptability and preliminary efficacy of Positive Adaptations for Trauma and Healing (PATH), a manualized treatment for Latino youth and their caregivers. PATH is a culturally adapted program that incorporates a trauma model, positive psychology, and resilience.

Method: Latino youth (N = 16) recruited from an urban community clinic participated in PATH with their caregiver.

Background: Hand hygiene is important in reducing healthcare-associated infections. The World Health Organization has defined 'five moments' when hand hygiene compliance is required. During 2013, New Zealand national data showed poor compliance with these moments by medical students.

Background: Appropriate thromboprophylaxis for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) remains a national challenge.

Methods: We hypothesized that provision of decision support in the form of an Atrial Fibrillation Decision Support Tool (AFDST) would improve thromboprophylaxis for AF patients. We conducted a cluster randomized trial involving 15 primary care practices and 1,493 adults with nonvalvular AF in an integrated health care system between April 2014 and February 2015.

Objectives: To assess the appropriateness of oral anticoagulant therapy (OAT) in women and elderly adults, looking for patterns of undertreatment or unnecessary treatment.

Design: Retrospective cohort study.

Setting: Primary care practices of an academic healthcare system.

Separators are used to protect cathodes from biofouling and to avoid electrode short-circuiting, but they can adversely affect microbial fuel cell (MFC) performance. A spray method was used to apply a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) separator to the cathode. Power densities were unaffected by the PVA separator (339±29mW/m(2)), compared to a control lacking a separator in a low conductivity solution (1mS/cm) similar to wastewater.

Background: Guidelines for anticoagulant therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation are based on stroke risk as calculated by either the CHADS2 or the CHA2DS2VASc scores and do not integrate bleeding risk in an explicit, quantitative manner. Our objective was to quantify the net clinical benefit resulting from improved decision making about antithrombotic therapy.

Methods And Results: This study is a retrospective cohort study of 1876 adults with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation or flutter seen in primary care settings of an integrated healthcare delivery system between December 2012 and January 2014.

Is the historical development of the Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) program unique or similar to the development of social security programs in other industrialized countries? The U.S. Social Security program was adopted some 40 to 50 years after those of most Western European nations.

Controlled release rifampin-loaded microspheres were evaluated for the first time in nonhuman primates. Animals received either 2.0 g of a large formulation (10-150 microm, 23 wt% rifampin) injected subcutaneously at Day 0 (118-139 mg rifampin/kg), 4.

Background: The goal of this study was to develop, test, and validate the efficacy of inexpensive mechanical minimally invasive surgery (MIS) model simulations for training faculty, residents, and medical students. We sought to demonstrate that trained and experienced MIS surgeon raters could reliably rate the MIS skills acquired during these simulations.

Methods: We developed three renewable models that represent difficult or challenging segments of laparoscopic procedures; laparoscopic appendectomy (LA), laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC), and laparoscopic inguinal hernia (LH).

Previous research has demonstrated that the antinociceptive efficacy of opioids decreases with advancing age. This study utilized radioligand binding techniques to determine if this decline is due to a change in the receptor density (Bmax) and/or affinity (measured as Kd) of the mu (mu) and/or delta (delta) opioid receptors in the spinal cord with advancing age. Saturation binding analysis with [3H][d-Ala2,N-methyl-Phe4,Gly5-ol]enkephalin (DAMGO: a mu-opioid selective agonist) and [3H]naltrindole (a delta-opioid selective antagonist) revealed no age-related changes in Bmax for either the mu or delta-opioid receptors.

Objective: Determine if ischemic tolerance is reduced in the setting of experimental heart failure (HF).

Methods: Dogs were paced for 3 weeks at 240 BPM to induce heart failure which was confirmed with hemodynamic and echocardiographic measurements. The pacemaker was turned off 30 min prior to the ischemia study.

The American Cancer Society sponsored a series of hearings to document the magnitude of the problems faced by the poor in seeking cancer care. The findings reflected that economically disadvantaged Americans are often forced to accept substandard health care services and face numerous problems when seeking preventive care and treatment. The glimpse from inside the circle of poverty (statements from the hearings) provides an opportunity to better understand the problems faced by the poor in accessing health care and to better recommend strategies for effecting a positive change.
