Keratoconus is a condition that causes progressive thinning and anterior protrusion of the cornea. Because of its irregular astigmatism, mild to moderate keratoconus is corrected with hard contact lenses (HCLs), but blepharoptosis due to the long-term wearing of HCLs is often a problem. In this study, we investigated blepharoptosis in HCL wearers with keratoconus.

Monitoring the changes in circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with metastatic potential is a valuable prognostic and predictive biomarker. CTCs are a rare population in the peripheral blood of patients with cancer.

Current treatments require multiple surgeries, which have risks of scar formation and facial deformities. Recently, fetal treatments utilizing "scarless healing" have gained attention, as early intervention shows potential to suppress scarring.

Intravenous ampicillin was administered on admission. However, when pneumococcal meningitis was suspected, the antibiotic treatment was changed to ceftriaxone (CTRX) and vancomycin (VCM).

Surgical enucleation of these cysts becomes challenging when they form adjacent to anatomically important structures. Recently, computer-assisted surgery using computer-aided preoperative simulation and augmented reality (AR) has been applied in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

However, the association between toothbrushing and systemic diseases remains unclear in adolescence. In this study, the association between dental self-care (frequency and duration of toothbrushing) and systemic diseases/disorders in adolescents was examined.

Study Selection: RCTs comparing treatment options for TMD published between January 2000 and July 2021 were retrieved from the databases of PubMed and Embase via a comprehensive electronic search. Patients diagnosed with myalgia (muscle pain) or arthralgia (joint pain) according to pain-related Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (DC/TMD) and the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD) were eligible for inclusion.

Cartilage repair necessitates regenerative medicine because of the unreliable healing mechanism of cartilage. To yield a sufficient number of cells for transplantation, chondrocytes must be expanded in culture. However, in 2D culture, chondrocytes tend to lose their distinctive phenotypes and functionalities after serial passage, thereby limiting their efficacy for tissue engineering purposes.

This study aimed to examine the long-term outcomes of stent-induced ductal change and evaluate factors that correlate with the development of irreversible ductal changes.
Methods: Between January 2008 and December 2022, 52/223 patients with chronic pancreatitis in whom an S-type plastic stent was successfully placed from the main papilla for duct stricture were detected with stent-induced ductal change on pancreatography at stent removal.

Periosteal expansion osteogenesis (PEO) is a technique for augmenting bone by creating a gradual separation between the bone and periosteum. This study assessed PEO-induced bone formation around the femurs of rats using a dynamic frame device (DFD), consisting of a shape memory membrane made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) formed into a tubular shape. The DFDs, consisting of a PET membrane coated with hydroxyapatite (HA)/gelatin on the bone-contact surface, were inserted between the periosteum and bone of the femurs of rats.

Upon infection, injury or malignancy the bone surface undergoes new growth-the periosteal reaction-but the mechanism and physiological role of this process remain unknown. Here we show that the periosteal reaction protects against cancer invasion into the bone.

The cyst had enlarged to approximately 130 mm and was diagnosed as a symptomatic hepatic cyst. Percutaneous cyst drainage was deemed challenging because of the risk of intestinal perforation; therefore, transgastric endoscopic ultrasound-guided hepatic cyst drainage was performed with external nasal cyst drainage.

Totally, 1,178 participants were included in this prospective cohort study. HDP, FPG, HbA1c, and potential confounding factors were included in multiple logistic regression models.

There are several reports comparing NSM and SSM with SM in the context of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS); however, the eligibility criteria vary among institutions, and there are no reports that compare all three surgical methods simultaneously within the same institution. This study aimed to compare the local recurrence and survival rates of the three techniques (NSM, SSM, and SM) in Japanese patients undergoing mastectomy for DCIS.
