Silicon integrated circuits (ICs) are central to the next-generation miniature active neural implants, whether packaged in soft polymers for flexible bioelectronics or implanted as bare die for neural probes. These emerging applications bring the IC closer to the corrosive body environment, raising reliability concerns, particularly for chronic use. Here, we evaluate the inherent hermeticity of bare die ICs, and examine the potential of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), a moisture-permeable elastomer, as a standalone encapsulation material.

We propose a novel approach to characterize the growth of individual crystals. Calcium chloride and sodium carbonate solutions have been injected into a Y-shaped microfluidic channel at various stoichiometric ratios, and the development of calcium carbonate has been monitored. Dimensionality reduction is an important exploratory data analysis method that allows high-dimensional data to be represented in a human-interpretable lower-dimensional space. It is extensively applied in the analysis of chemical libraries, where chemical structure data - represented as high-dimensional feature vectors-are transformed into 2D or 3D chemical space maps. In this paper, commonly used dimensionality reduction techniques - Principal Component Analysis (PCA), t-Distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (t-SNE), Uniform Manifold Approximation and Projection (UMAP), and Generative Topographic Mapping (GTM) - are evaluated in terms of neighborhood preservation and visualization capability of sets of small molecules from the ChEMBL database.

Aggregation-prone-motifs (APRs) of proteins are short segments, which - as isolated peptides - form diverse amyloid-like crystals. We introduce two APRs - designed variants of the incretin mimetic Exendin-4 - that both display crystal-phase polymorphism. Crystallographic and spectroscopic analysis revealed that a single amino-acid substitution can greatly reduce topological variability: while LYIQWL can form both parallel and anti-parallel β-sheets, LYIQNL selects only the former.

The production of ϒ(2S) and ϒ(3S) mesons in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions is studied in their dimuon decay channel using the CMS detector at the LHC. The ϒ(3S) meson is observed for the first time in Pb-Pb collisions, with a significance above 5 standard deviations.
