Background: Treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is difficult and the search for effective therapies continues.
Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of ustekinumab and to discover a potential biomarker for HS.
Methods: Seventeen patients were included in this open-label study and treated with 45 or 90 mg ustekinumab at weeks 0, 4, 16 and 28.
Hidradenitis suppurativa is difficult to treat owing to its complex pathomechanism; beside the extensive inflammation with abscesses and inflammatory nodules, there is also an architectural loss with sinus tract formation and in severe cases with extensive scarring. Therefore, surgery is mandatory in moderate and severe HS.

We have determined the response time of dilute electrorheological fluids (ER) in drag flow from the dynamic dielectric response. On the basis of a kinetic rate equation a new formula was derived to approximate the experimental time-dependent dielectric permittivity during the temporal evolution of the microstructure. The dielectric response time was compared to the standard rheological response time extracted from the time-dependent shear stress, and a good agreement was obtained.

Since the majority of agents and interventions affecting SV may modify also action potential duration (APD), we propose here the concept of relative SV (RSV), where changes in SV are normalized to changes in APD and these data are compared to the control SV-APD relationship obtained by lengthening or shortening of action potentials by inward and outward current injections. Based on this concept the influence of the several experimental conditions like stimulation frequency, temperature, pH, redox-state and osmolarity were examined on RSV in canine ventricular myocytes using sharp microelectrodes.

Background: In coronary artery disease (CAD), body surface potential mapping (BSPM) may reveal minor electrical potential changes appearing in the depolarization phase even if pathological changes are absent on the conventional 12-lead ECG. We hypothesized that a simple BSPM parameter, Max/Min signifies successful percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Methods: Ninety-two adult Caucasian patients with stable CAD and positive exercise test underwent coronary angiography.
New densitometer installation requires cross-calibration for accurate longitudinal assessment. When replacing a unit with the same model, the International Society for Clinical Densitometry recommends cross-calibrating by scanning phantoms 10 times on each instrument and states that spine bone mineral density (BMD) should be within 1%, whereas total body lean, fat, and %fat mass should be within 2% of the prior instrument. However, there is limited validation that these recommendations provide adequate total body cross-calibration.

Background: Inflammatory/hyperplastic small-bowel polyps (SBPs) occur either sporadically or in patients with a polyposis syndrome; however, comparison between these two settings of the histological features of SBPs has not been reported and the etiology of sporadic inflammatory/hyperplastic SBPs remains unclear.
Method: Twenty-eight cases of sporadic inflammatory/hyperplastic SBPs and nine cases of syndromic SBPs were retrieved from the Department of Anatomic Pathology at the Cleveland Clinic. Clinico-demographics and histological features were compared between the two groups.
