Objectives We aim to investigate factors associated with rebleeding and mortality within one month of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) for spontaneous muscle hematoma (SMH) and the impact of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Methods This retrospective analysis included 33 patients who underwent TAE for SMH at a single center between 2012 and 2022. After 2020, eight of these patients had the COVID-19 infection.

The NADH/NAD ratio, reflecting the balance between NADH (reduced) and NADoxidized, is a key marker for the severity of mitochondrial diseases. We recently developed a streamlined LC-MS/MS method for the precise measurement of NADH and NAD.

However, such types are difficult to be rolled and delivered through the port of laparoscopic surgical devices due to adherence to the laparoscopic port or other parts of the films. To create an anti-adhesion film with more favorable handling properties and anti-adhesive effect, we developed a novel punctate uneven gelatin film (PU GF).

This study aimed to elucidate the association of edaravone use with ADL using real-world data of older patients with atherothrombotic stroke.
Methods: This retrospective observational research using the Medical Data Vision database in Japan included patients aged 65 years and older who had acute ischemic stroke of the atherothrombotic subtype.
Four new bisindole alkaloids, cathagines A (1)-D (4) consisting of an aspidosperma and the fused tetracyclic 3-spirooxindole derived from an iboga type skeleton were isolated from the whole plant of Catharanthus roseus. The structures including absolute stereochemistry were elucidated on the basis of 2D NMR data and CD spectra. Cathagine B (2) showed moderate anti-malarial activity against Plasmodium falciparum 3D7.

Background: Primary malignant cardiac tumors are exceedingly rare and cardiac rhabdomyosarcoma among them is an exceptional rarity characterized by a dismal poor prognosis.
Case Presentation: A 48-year-old man had suffered from a persistent cough lasting for more than 6 months and computed tomography showed a huge mass in the pericardial cavity with heterogeneous content. Following referral to our department for suspected cardiac malignancy, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging revealed a lucent layer on the boundary around the mass, suggesting the feasibility of surgical resection.
Aims: This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with the exacerbation of the severity of atherothrombotic brain infarction at discharge in patients with type 2 diabetes using a large-scale claims database.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study utilized the Medical Data Vision administrative claims database, a nationwide database in Japan using acute care hospital data, and the Diagnosis Procedure Combination system. Diagnosis Procedure Combination data collected between April 1, 2008, and December 31, 2022, were extracted.
Embryo implantation failures are a major challenge in reproductive medicine, but the underlying mechanism remains poorly understood. Successful implantation requires dynamic remodeling of the endometrium through integrated proliferation and differentiation of endometrial cells including luminal epithelial, glandular epithelial, and stromal cells. Conversely, their disruption causes infertility.

Dysregulation of DNA methylation is implicated in the etiology of several diseases, such as cancer and imprinting diseases. Accordingly, technologies designed to manipulate DNA methylation at specific loci are considered worthwhile and many epigenome editing technologies have been developed, which were based on ZF, TALE, and CRISPR-dCas9.

However, cases of poor gastrointestinal wall extension due to frequent eructation have been reported. Sufficient gastrointestinal wall extension can be achieved by applying cricoid pressure during EGD.

We used abdominal computed tomography to evaluate intra- and periorgan fat accumulations in the pancreas, liver, spleen, renal parenchyma, renal sinus, and skeletal muscle. The relationships between these fats, visceral fat, and subcutaneous fat were examined by using partial correlation and covariance analysis, adjusting for BMI.

Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), conversely, exhibit antiobesogenic effects; however, the regulation of MCT intake remains elusive. Here, we demonstrate that mice can distinguish between MCTs and LCTs, and the specific appetite for MCTs is governed by hepatic β-oxidation.

A recent vaccine trial in malaria-exposed, healthy African adults and children living in a malaria hyperendemic and seasonal area (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso) was the first study in which BK-SE36/CpG was administered to different age groups. In 5- to 10-year-old children, the risk of malaria infection was markedly lower in the BK-SE36/CpG arm compared to the control arm.

This study aimed to investigate the clinical impact of eradication on diagnosing GC during screening endoscopy.
Methods: Eleven health checkup institutions in Japan participated in the present study.
Capture and real-time recording of precise body movements using strain sensors provide personal information for healthcare monitoring and management. To acquire this information, a sensor that conforms to curved irregular surfaces, including biological tissue, is desired to record complex body movements while acting like a second skin to avoid interference with the movements. In this study, we developed a thin-film-type capacitive strain sensor that is flexible and stretchable on the surface of a living body.

We planned to perform a CT-guided percutaneous needle biopsy of the tumor using a retroaortic paravertebral approach to avoid transpulmonary puncture.

Here, we present a simple and timesaving method that enables adeno-associated virus (AAV)-mediated cell-type- and age-specific recombination in floxed mice. To achieve astrocyte-specific recombination in floxed Ai14 reporter mice, we intravenously injected blood-brain barrier-penetrating AAV-PHP.

Methods: We retrospectively recruited T2D patients who underwent abdominal unenhanced CT scans both before and after administration of liraglutide (N = 13) or glimepiride (N = 29).
