Background: On-pump beating coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a procedure that uses cardiopulmonary bypass to maintain circulation and it is a useful technique for CABG in patients with severely impaired cardiac function. Here, we report a case of left atrial rupture that occurred during CABG. Reports of left atrial injury are rare, and there have been no previous reports of such cases associated with on-pump beating CABG.

Although the 20S core particle (CP) of the proteasome is an important component of the 26S holoenzyme, the stand-alone 20S CP acts directly on intrinsically disordered and oxidized/damaged proteins to degrade them in a ubiquitin-independent manner. It has been postulated that some structural features of substrate proteins are recognized by the 20S CP to promote substrate uptake, but the mechanism of substrate recognition has not been fully elucidated. This single-center retrospective analysis investigated the number of days required for postoperative 6-minute walk distance (6MWD) to recover to preoperative values after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and the factors influencing this recovery. The 6MWD was measured in 101 patients (median age 69 years; 18 women) before and every day after CABG. A chiral amidophosphate-N-iodosuccinimide cooperative catalysis has been developed for the site-, diastereo-, and enantioselective iodocyclization of 2-geranylarenols with molecular iodine to give the corresponding iodo-containing polycyclic compounds with good levels of selectivity. This is the first example of a catalytic enantioselective iodocarbocyclization. A reactive chiral iodonium species is generated from molecular iodine via the dual halogen-bonding interactions with a chiral Lewis base and Lewis acid.

We showed previously that gallic acid is produced in walnut from 3-dehydroshikimate by a shikimate dehydrogenase (JrSkDH). This study focuses on the next step in the hydrolysable tannin pathway, the formation of 1--galloyl-β-D-glucose from the phenolic gallic acid and UDP glucose by a glycosyltransferase. JrGGT1 (UGT84A73) and JrGGT2 (UGT84A74) are predicted to be two such glycosyltransferases, which we expressed in tobacco plants.

An enantioselective 1,4-addition of α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids with cycloalkanones has been developed by using chiral amine-boronic acid cooperative catalysts. In the presence of a chiral amine and boronic acid, cycloalkanones and carboxylic acids are activated as chiral enamines and mixed anhydrides, respectively. The halogen-bonding interaction between I and -iodosuccinimide (NIS) stabilized by a Lewis base (LB) has been explored. H NMR, nuclear Overhauser effect (NOE), and diffusion-ordered NMR spectroscopy (DOSY) suggest the generation of a 1:1:1 assembly, LB-I-NIS. In contrast, when -iodotrifluoromethanesulfonimide (INTf) is used instead of NIS, LB-I-LB is generated.
