We report a case of retroperitoneal abscess mimicking a malignant retroperitoneal tumor. A 77-yearold woman was referred to our hospital because of retroperitoneal tumor without any symptoms. The tumor was located just behind the inferior vena cava, and the tumor size was about 38 mm.

To date, no consensus has been reached on the urodynamic criteria for defining DU. We previously proposed the area under the curve of the Watts factor (WF-AUC) as a new parameter for diagnosing DU.

This study investigated the anti-caries and anti-inflammatory effects of mouthwash formulations containing (pomegranate) peel extract (PPE), sodium-trimetaphosphate, and low concentrations of fluoride. PPE was characterized using high-performance liquid chromatography (ellagic acid and punicalagin). Total phenolics were quantified among formulations, and their stability was analyzed for 28 days.

We retrospectively investigated the intraoperative and 90-day postoperative complications of ORC and RARC performed from March 2014 to September 2021 based on the medical records. Perioperative complications were categorized according to the Clavien- Dindo classification.

We evaluated an alternative delivery method with 3933 members of a program powered by conversational Artificial Intelligence (AI) called that has full recognition from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Methods: We compared weight loss maintenance at 12 months between two groups: 1) CDC qualifiers who completed ≥4 educational lessons over 9 months (n = 191) and 2) non-qualifiers who did not complete the required CDC lessons but provided weigh-ins at 12 months (n = 223).
We retrospectively reviewed the surgical outcome of ureteral reconstruction that was performed in Asahikawa Medical University Hospital between 2005 and 2021. A total of 14 patients (3 males, 11 females; 15 ureters) were included in this analysis. The median age was 57 years old.

RENAL nephrometry (RN) score, Preoperative Aspects and Dimensions Used for an Anatomical (PADUA) Classification and Simplified PADUA Renal (SPARE) nephrometry system are tumor-specific morphometry scoring systems used for predicting the difficulty of partial nephrectomy. Adherent perinephric fat (APF) is one of the patient-specific factors related to the difficulty of partial nephrectomy.

We present a quantitative approach for discovering and characterizing engagement personas: longitudinal engagement patterns in a fully digital diabetes prevention program. We used a two-step approach to discovering engagement personas among = 1613 users: (1) A univariate clustering method using two unsupervised k-means clustering algorithms on app- and program-feature use separately and (2) A bivariate clustering method that involved comparing cluster labels for each member across app- and program-feature univariate clusters.

Although the populations of patients with functional seizures (FS) and epileptic seizures (ES) are extremely heterogeneous with multiple etiologies and phenotypes, patients with FS have increased somatic sensitivity and report more positive complaints on review-of-systems questionnaires (ROSQs). We evaluated if data-driven clustering and projection analysis could identify symptom phenotypes that could differentiate between patients with FS and ES. The dataset included all adult patients admitted from January 2006 to March 2020 for video-electroencephalography with available ROSQs (N = 877).

This study takes an interdisciplinary approach to analyze the economic and social impacts of the pandemic on Japanese fisheries, gauging the extent and nature of the damages incurred from Covid-19 while helping to provide tailored post-recovery recommendations for the industry. Using results from an online survey questionnaire (N = 429) and compiling additional economic information from public sources, this study revealed the overwhelmingly negative changes in sales figures and overall financial security that survey participants experienced when compared to a year earlier.

This pathology is often seen as an ocular lesion associated with systemic inflammatory diseases. Severe types of scleritis such as posterior scleritis require urgent immunosuppressive treatments, including molecularly targeted therapies to avoid permanent visual impairment.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: The posterior approach is widely used in femoral hemiarthroplasty. The major problem with this approach is the high risk of postoperative dislocation. A modified posterior approach, the conjoined tendon preserving posterior approach (CPP), was developed to reduce postoperative dislocations.

Some studies have reported the beneficial effects of propolis in models of allergic asthma. In a previous study, our group showed that green propolis treatment reduced airway inflammation and mucus secretion in an ovalbumin (OVA)-induced asthma model and resulted in increased regulatory T cells (Treg) and polymorphonuclear myeloid-derived suppressor cells (PMN-MDSC) frequencies in the lungs, two leukocyte populations that have immunosuppressive functions.

Study Design: A prospective, multicenter, randomized, non-inferiority trial.
Methods: Patients of new-onset acute VKH disease at 11 centers in Japan between 2014 and 2018 were randomized to a combination (oral prednisolone 60 mg daily with gradual taper-off to 35 mg/day and cyclosporine 3 mg/kg/day) and corticosteroid (methylprednisolone 1000 mg for 3 days followed by oral prednisolone) groups, and were followed for 1 year.
The patient was a 69-year-old man diagnosed with stage ⅣB lung adenocarcinoma with 95% programmed death- ligand 1 expression, and pembrolizumab monotherapy was initiated. The patient exhibited fatigue from the 12th course(36 weeks after treatment initiation) of treatment. Chest computed tomography revealed scattered ground-glass opacities in the upper lobes of both lungs, and he was subsequently diagnosed with interstitial pneumonia.

Diagnostic delays were associated with worse quality of life and more seizures, even after treatment. To understand why diagnoses were delayed, we evaluated which factors were associated with delay to VEM.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: Video-electroencephalographic monitoring (VEM) is a core component to the diagnosis and evaluation of epilepsy and dissociative seizures (DS)-also known as functional or psychogenic seizures-but VEM evaluation often occurs later than recommended. To understand why delays occur, we compared how patient-reported clinical factors were associated with time from first seizure to VEM (TVEM) in patients with epilepsy, DS or mixed.
Methods: We acquired data from 1245 consecutive patients with epilepsy, VEM-documented DS or mixed epilepsy and DS.
Objective: To develop a Dissociative Seizures Likelihood Score (DSLS), which is a comprehensive, evidence-based tool using information available during the first outpatient visit to identify patients with "probable" dissociative seizures (DS) to allow early triage to more extensive diagnostic assessment.
Methods: Based on data from 1616 patients with video-electroencephalography (vEEG) confirmed diagnoses, we compared the clinical history from a single neurology interview of patients in five mutually exclusive groups: epileptic seizures (ES), DS, physiologic nonepileptic seizure-like events (PSLE), mixed DS plus ES, and inconclusive monitoring. We used data-driven methods to determine the diagnostic utility of 76 features from retrospective chart review and applied this model to prospective interviews.
Purpose: We evaluated the analgesic, anti-inflammatory and toxicological effects of indomethacin incorporated into mesoporous silica nanoparticles (IND+NP).
Methods: Nociception was evaluated by the formalin assay. The anti-inflammatory potential was assessed by cell migration and paw edema assays, modulation of nitric oxide and cytokines (IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-α) by macrophages production.
