[A Case of Retroperitoneal Abscess with Severe Inflammatory Adherence to Inferior Vena Cava].

We report a case of retroperitoneal abscess mimicking a malignant retroperitoneal tumor. A 77-yearold woman was referred to our hospital because of retroperitoneal tumor without any symptoms. The tumor was located just behind the inferior vena cava, and the tumor size was about 38 mm.

Validation of the area under the Watts factor curve during the voiding cycle as a novel parameter for diagnosing detrusor underactivity in females.

Objective: Detrusor underactivity (DU) is a common cause of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). To date, no consensus has been reached on the urodynamic criteria for defining DU. We previously proposed the area under the curve of the Watts factor (WF-AUC) as a new parameter for diagnosing DU.

[Three Cases of Bilateral Metachronous Testicular Tumors].

We present three cases of bilateral metachronous testicular tumors. The patient in case 1 had a history of left orchiectomy for undescended testis at the age of 19. The pathological findings revealed germ cell neoplasia in situ.

[Improvement of tissue fibrosis in TAFRO syndrome by prednisolone monotherapy].

We report the case of a 48-year-old man who presented with fatigue and weight loss. A local physician observed elevated alkaline phosphatase levels, anemia, thrombocytopenia, and renal dysfunction. Fever also appeared, and the patient was admitted to our hospital.

Objectives: To survey the utilization of social media (SoMe) in patients with urological disease and their families.

Methods: Among the panel members registered in NEO Marketing Inc. (Tokyo, Japan), 300 people who or whose families were visiting the urological department regularly were included.

Pomegranate Extract Potentiates the Anti-Demineralizing, Anti-Biofilm, and Anti-Inflammatory Actions of Non-Alcoholic Mouthwash When Associated with Sodium-Fluoride Trimetaphosphate.

This study investigated the anti-caries and anti-inflammatory effects of mouthwash formulations containing (pomegranate) peel extract (PPE), sodium-trimetaphosphate, and low concentrations of fluoride. PPE was characterized using high-performance liquid chromatography (ellagic acid and punicalagin). Total phenolics were quantified among formulations, and their stability was analyzed for 28 days.

[Comparison of Perioperative Outcomes between Open and Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Cystectomy].

We compared the perioperative outcomes of open (ORC) and robot-assisted laparoscopic radical cystectomy (RARC) for patients with bladder cancer. We retrospectively investigated the intraoperative and 90-day postoperative complications of ORC and RARC performed from March 2014 to September 2021 based on the medical records. Perioperative complications were categorized according to the Clavien- Dindo classification.

Weight loss in a digital app-based diabetes prevention program powered by artificial intelligence.

Objective: The National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) reduces diabetes incidence and associated medical costs but is typically staffing-intensive, limiting scalability. We evaluated an alternative delivery method with 3933 members of a program powered by conversational Artificial Intelligence (AI) called that has full recognition from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Methods: We compared weight loss maintenance at 12 months between two groups: 1) CDC qualifiers who completed ≥4 educational lessons over 9 months (n  =  191) and 2) non-qualifiers who did not complete the required CDC lessons but provided weigh-ins at 12 months (n  =  223).

[Treatment Outcome of Ureteral Reconstruction Surgery].

We retrospectively reviewed the surgical outcome of ureteral reconstruction that was performed in Asahikawa Medical University Hospital between 2005 and 2021. A total of 14 patients (3 males, 11 females; 15 ureters) were included in this analysis. The median age was 57 years old.

Adherent perinephric fat (APF) is one of the patient-specific factors related to the difficulty of partial nephrectomy.

Discovering Engagement Personas in a Digital Diabetes Prevention Program.

Digital health technologies are shaping the future of preventive health care. We present a quantitative approach for discovering and characterizing engagement personas: longitudinal engagement patterns in a fully digital diabetes prevention program. We used a two-step approach to discovering engagement personas among = 1613 users: (1) A univariate clustering method using two unsupervised k-means clustering algorithms on app- and program-feature use separately and (2) A bivariate clustering method that involved comparing cluster labels for each member across app- and program-feature univariate clusters.

Phenotyping of Review-of-Systems Responses to Differentiate Functional Seizures From Epilepsy.

Although the populations of patients with functional seizures (FS) and epileptic seizures (ES) are extremely heterogeneous with multiple etiologies and phenotypes, patients with FS have increased somatic sensitivity and report more positive complaints on review-of-systems questionnaires (ROSQs). We evaluated if data-driven clustering and projection analysis could identify symptom phenotypes that could differentiate between patients with FS and ES. The dataset included all adult patients admitted from January 2006 to March 2020 for video-electroencephalography with available ROSQs (N = 877).

How has the 'customary nature' of Japanese fisheries reacted to Covid-19? An interdisciplinary study examining the impacts of the pandemic in 2020.

Like many other countries, the economy and society of Japan have been deeply affected by the Covid-19 outbreak, and the fishery sector is no exception. This study takes an interdisciplinary approach to analyze the economic and social impacts of the pandemic on Japanese fisheries, gauging the extent and nature of the damages incurred from Covid-19 while helping to provide tailored post-recovery recommendations for the industry. Using results from an online survey questionnaire (N = 429) and compiling additional economic information from public sources, this study revealed the overwhelmingly negative changes in sales figures and overall financial security that survey participants experienced when compared to a year earlier.

Immunopathological Analysis of a Mouse Model of Arthritis-Associated Scleritis and Implications for Molecular Targeted Therapy for Severe Scleritis.

Scleritis involves inflammation of the sclera, which constitutes 75% of the wall of the eye. This pathology is often seen as an ocular lesion associated with systemic inflammatory diseases. Severe types of scleritis such as posterior scleritis require urgent immunosuppressive treatments, including molecularly targeted therapies to avoid permanent visual impairment.

Conjoined tendon preserving posterior approach in hemiarthroplasty for femoral neck fractures: A prospective multicenter clinical study of 322 patients.

Purpose: The posterior approach is widely used in femoral hemiarthroplasty. The major problem with this approach is the high risk of postoperative dislocation. A modified posterior approach, the conjoined tendon preserving posterior approach (CPP), was developed to reduce postoperative dislocations.

Propolis is a natural product produced by bees that is primarily used in complementary and alternative medicine and has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, and antitumoral biological properties. Some studies have reported the beneficial effects of propolis in models of allergic asthma. In a previous study, our group showed that green propolis treatment reduced airway inflammation and mucus secretion in an ovalbumin (OVA)-induced asthma model and resulted in increased regulatory T cells (Treg) and polymorphonuclear myeloid-derived suppressor cells (PMN-MDSC) frequencies in the lungs, two leukocyte populations that have immunosuppressive functions.

Comparison of combination therapy of prednisolone and cyclosporine with corticosteroid pulse therapy in Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease.

Purpose: To compare the efficacy and safety of a combination therapy of prednisolone and cyclosporine and corticosteroid pulse therapy in Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease.

Study Design: A prospective, multicenter, randomized, non-inferiority trial.

Methods: Patients of new-onset acute VKH disease at 11 centers in Japan between 2014 and 2018 were randomized to a combination (oral prednisolone 60 mg daily with gradual taper-off to 35 mg/day and cyclosporine 3 mg/kg/day) and corticosteroid (methylprednisolone 1000 mg for 3 days followed by oral prednisolone) groups, and were followed for 1 year.

[A Case of Immune-Related Adverse Events Affecting the Lungs, Skin, and Pituitary Gland during Pembrolizumab Treatment].

The patient was a 69-year-old man diagnosed with stage ⅣB lung adenocarcinoma with 95% programmed death- ligand 1 expression, and pembrolizumab monotherapy was initiated. The patient exhibited fatigue from the 12th course(36 weeks after treatment initiation) of treatment. Chest computed tomography revealed scattered ground-glass opacities in the upper lobes of both lungs, and he was subsequently diagnosed with interstitial pneumonia.

Factors associated with delay to video-EEG in dissociative seizures.

Purpose: While certain clinical factors suggest a diagnosis of dissociative seizures (DS), otherwise known as functional or psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES), ictal video-electroencephalography monitoring (VEM) is the gold standard for diagnosis. Diagnostic delays were associated with worse quality of life and more seizures, even after treatment. To understand why diagnoses were delayed, we evaluated which factors were associated with delay to VEM.

Epilepsy, dissociative seizures, and mixed: Associations with time to video-EEG.

Purpose: Video-electroencephalographic monitoring (VEM) is a core component to the diagnosis and evaluation of epilepsy and dissociative seizures (DS)-also known as functional or psychogenic seizures-but VEM evaluation often occurs later than recommended. To understand why delays occur, we compared how patient-reported clinical factors were associated with time from first seizure to VEM (TVEM) in patients with epilepsy, DS or mixed.

Methods: We acquired data from 1245 consecutive patients with epilepsy, VEM-documented DS or mixed epilepsy and DS.

Objective: To develop a Dissociative Seizures Likelihood Score (DSLS), which is a comprehensive, evidence-based tool using information available during the first outpatient visit to identify patients with "probable" dissociative seizures (DS) to allow early triage to more extensive diagnostic assessment.

Methods: Based on data from 1616 patients with video-electroencephalography (vEEG) confirmed diagnoses, we compared the clinical history from a single neurology interview of patients in five mutually exclusive groups: epileptic seizures (ES), DS, physiologic nonepileptic seizure-like events (PSLE), mixed DS plus ES, and inconclusive monitoring. We used data-driven methods to determine the diagnostic utility of 76 features from retrospective chart review and applied this model to prospective interviews.
