This study examines the governance structures selected by pineapple farmers in the agroforestry system of Bangladesh and the determinants that impact their choices for these structures. To evaluate the factors influencing farmers' decisions to participate in spot markets, bilateral agreements, or association transactions, the study utilizes both quantitative and qualitative approaches, including surveys of 200 farmers, 15 focus group discussions (FGDs), and 2 key informant interviews (KIIs). In order to choose individual participants, the study employed a stratified random sampling technique.

Unlabelled: Virtual reality for routine immunisations in needle phobic children with and without developmental disabilities: a pilot study.

Background: Virtual Reality (VR) headsets can improve needle procedure success and experiences for children, but they have not been evaluated to support immunisation in children with anxiety and behavioural challenges. This study assessed the feasibility and acceptability of VR for immunisation in children with needle phobia, including children with and without developmental disabilities.

Background: Child undernutrition is a major public health problem in developing countries that contributes to increased incidence of morbidity and mortality. Stunting is a valid and widely acknowledged measure of chronic child malnutrition.

Methods: This study extracted data of 7778 under-5 children from the 2017-2018 Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey and aims to explore the relationship between socio-demographic factors and the nutritional status of children under the age of 5.

Background: The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between parental vaccine hesitancy and vaccine coverage for all recommended vaccines for children under five years residing in Statistical Areas Level 3 (SA3). SA3 groupings represent clustering groups of smaller areas, such as regional towns and cities or clusters of related suburbs, which share similar regional characteristics, administrative boundaries or labour markets, and generally have populations between 30,000 and 130,000 persons.

Methods: We used parental vaccine hesitancy data from the VBAT (Vaccine Barrier Assessment Tool) study and vaccine coverage by postcode data from the Australian Immunisation Coverage Report 2020/21.

This study investigates the potential improvement of polyhemoglobin's protective properties by the addition of 3 synthetic enzymes (neo-carbonic anhydrase, neo-catalase and neo-superoxide dismutase) to polyhemoglobin after 90 and 180 min of warm in-vitro ischemia (100% Nitrogen at 37 °C). Following the warm ischemic shock, cell cultures were subjected to various treatment solutions: Controls; PolyHb; 3 neoenzymes; PolyHb + 3 neoenzymes; PolyHb + 2 neoenzymes. The cultures were then incubated (Oxygen, 5% CO at 37 °C) for 24 h followed by several analyses.

Objectives: To investigate the change between 2017 and 2023 in caregiver-reported intention to vaccinate children aged 6 months-5 years against influenza and compare this to vaccine uptake in Australia, following the COVID-19 pandemic and the free influenza vaccine policy for young children by different states and territories since 2018 and nationally in 2020.

Study Design: Retrospective data analysis.

Methods: A retrospective data analysis was conducted using the Royal Children's Hospital National Child Health Poll data.

Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses the global need for increased trust in vaccines, particularly in the context of COVID-19, highlighting a collaborative effort in Fiji to improve vaccination rates through a training program for health workers and community influencers.
  • The Vaccine Champions program involved co-designing training, educating participants, and supporting them to lead community vaccine discussions over six months, evaluated using the RE-AIM framework.
  • Results showed significant increases in Champions’ confidence and knowledge about vaccines, with community vaccination intention rising from 41% to 83% after sessions led by trained Champions.

Cotton wool plaques (CWPs) have been described as features of the neuropathologic phenotype of dominantly inherited Alzheimer disease (DIAD) caused by some missense and deletion mutations in the presenilin 1 (PSEN1) gene. CWPs are round, eosinophilic amyloid-β (Aβ) plaques that lack an amyloid core and are recognizable, but not fluorescent, in Thioflavin S (ThS) preparations. Amino-terminally truncated and post-translationally modified Aβ peptide species are the main component of CWPs.

Background: Despite COVID-19 infection being less severe in children compared to adults, vaccination for children from the age of 6 months onwards is recommended in many countries to reduce symptom severity and prevent severe disease. However, vaccination against COVID-19 for children remains controversial and uptake has been low.

Aims: To assess and compare the rate of change of parent-reported COVID-19 vaccine uptake in children aged 5 to 11 years and motivators of vaccine acceptance and non-vaccination among parents/guardians in Canada and Australia.

Background: There is an elevated co-occurrence of autism in trans individuals, with recent meta-analyses suggesting that 11% of trans individuals are autistic. The presence of autism in trans young people can create clinical challenges by adding complexity to the presentation, assessment and management of those presenting to gender clinics. Although many trans young people display traits of autism, how these traits relate to the nature of their gender diversity is unclear.

Background And Objectives: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) lockdowns (stay-at-home orders) had significant mental health consequences in 2020 to 2021 for caregivers and children. Little is known about "postlockdown" periods in 2022 to 2023. We investigated the mental health experiences of Australian families throughout the 3 years of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2023), by demographic characteristics and lockdown length.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how different cord-clamping strategies after birth affect blood pressure (BP) and cerebral tissue oxygen saturation (rStO) in infants needing resuscitation.
  • Infants were randomly assigned to either a physiologically-based cord clamping (PBCC) method, where resuscitation starts before cord clamping, or early cord clamping (ECC), with both groups showing similar BP and rStO levels.
  • The findings suggest that cord clamping timing doesn't significantly impact BP or rStO for infants who don't need advanced resuscitation, establishing new reference ranges for vigorous late-preterm and full-term infants undergoing deferred cord clamping.

Adult individuals with Down syndrome (DS) develop Alzheimer disease (AD). Whether there is a difference between AD in DS and AD regarding the structure of amyloid-β (Aβ) and tau filaments is unknown. Here we report the structure of Aβ and tau filaments from two DS brains.

Aims: The aim of this study was to investigate the agreement in interpretation of the quality of the paediatric hip ultrasound examination, the reliability of geometric and morphological assessment, and the relationship between these measurements.

Methods: Four investigators evaluated 60 hip ultrasounds and assessed their quality based the standard plane of Graf et al. They measured geometric parameters, described the morphology of the hip, and assigned the Graf grade of dysplasia.

Globally, we have seen a drop in adult and child quality of life (QOL) during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, little is known about adult or child QOL during the height of the pandemic in Australia and the impact of government-imposed restrictions, specifically attending school on-site versus home schooling. Our study aimed to establish if QOL in children and parents presenting to a Respiratory Infection Clinic in Victoria, Australia, for COVID-19 PCR testing differed from pre-pandemic population norms.

This is a study on a simple solution of chemically prepared small chemical molecules of synthetic enzymes: catalase, superoxide dismutase, and carbonic anhydrase (CAT, SOD, and CA). We carried out a study to see if these synthetic enzymes can replace the natural enzymes (CAT, SOD, and CA) and avoid the need for the complicated cross-linking of natural enzymes to PolyHb to form PolyHb-CAT-SOD-CA. We compared the effect a solution of these three synthetic enzymes has on the viability of warm-ischemic hepatocytes that were exposed to nitrogen for 1 h at 37°C.
