Microtubule-stabilizing agents (enfortumab vedotin and brentuximab vedotin) and microtubule-disrupting agents (docetaxel and paclitaxel) are used as anticancer agents but can also induce drug eruptions. Recently, mitotic arrest figures have been reported in various non-neoplastic cells as the histopathologic side effect of these drug eruptions. Therefore, we performed a comparative analysis of drug eruptions associated with these microtubule-targeting agents.

  • Comprehensive genome profiling (CGP) has changed healthcare by paving the way for personalized medicine, but its real-world effectiveness is still uncertain.
  • A study at the Osaka International Cancer Institute analyzed data from 1,096 advanced solid tumor patients to assess how often CGP led to suitable therapies and its impact on patient outcomes.
  • The findings revealed that while CGP provided clinical trial options for 60.9% of patients, only a small fraction (1.1%) could enroll, and the progression-free survival for treatments was generally short, indicating a need for better integration of CGP into trial systems and patient care.

Although surgical varicocele treatment is generally considered to result in improved reproductive outcomes, we encountered a rare case of postoperative azoospermia in an infertile male patient who underwent microsurgical varicocelectomy for a palpable left-sided varicocele with concomitant cryptozoospermia. More than 1 year after varicocelectomy, the patient still had not recovered from azoospermia. Thereafter, he underwent microdissection testicular sperm extraction (micro-TESE), allowing him and his partner to obtain one good quality blastocyst via intracytoplasmic sperm injection following oocyte retrievals.

We have previously developed a 3D video tracking system which enables us to analyze long-term quantitative analysis of gene expression in freely moving mice. In the present study, we improved 3D video tracking and developed a system that analyzes more detailed behavioral data. We succeeded in simultaneously analyzing sleep-wake, feeding, and drinking behavior rhythms in the same individual using our tracking system.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how autophagy impacts the inflammatory response triggered by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in RAW264.7 cells, focusing on the MyD88/NF-kB signaling pathway.
  • Researchers used chloroquine (CQ) as an autophagy inhibitor and found it reduced levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and influenced other inflammatory mediators in LPS-stimulated cells.
  • The findings suggest that CQ could be a potential therapeutic target for managing inflammatory diseases by regulating inflammatory responses.

In Japan, the traditional method for measuring plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) was radioimmunoassay (RIA), which had several challenges, including poor traceability of certified reference materials and reduced detection sensitivity at low concentrations. To overcome these issues, a chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay (CLEIA) for PAC measurement was introduced in April 2021 and the Japan Endocrine Society published new guidelines for primary aldosteronism (PA). This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the transition from RIA to CLEIA for PAC measurement on PA diagnosis.

We recently found that polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-protected metal nanoparticles dispersed in water/butanol mixture spontaneously float to the air/water interface and form two-dimensional assemblies due to classical surface excess theory and Rayleigh-Bénard-Marangoni convection induced by butanol evaporation. In this study, we found that by leveraging this principle, a unique structure is formed where hetero gold nanospheres (AuNPs)/gold nanostars (AuNSs) complexes are dispersed within AuNP two-dimensional assemblies, obtained from a mixture of polyvinylpyrrolidone-protected AuNPs and AuNSs that interact electrostatically with the AuNPs. These structures were believed to form as a result of AuNPs/AuNSs complexes formed in the water/butanol mixture floating to the air/water interface and being incorporated into the growth of AuNP two-dimensional assemblies.
