Background: Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) causes HTLV-1-associated myelopathy (HAM), adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL), HTLV-1-associated uveitis, and pulmonary diseases. Although both HAM and ATL show proliferation of infected cells, their pathogeneses are quite different. In particular, the pathogenesis of HAM is characterized by hyperimmune responses to HTLV-1-infected cells.

The present study tested whether the consumption of 1-kestose (KES), an indigestible oligosaccharide that alters gut microbiota composition, influences the microRNA expression in the LPL. Supplementation of KES (4%) in drinking water for 2 wk increased the levels of miR-182-5p, -205-5p, -290a-5p, miR-200 family members (miR-141-3p, -200a-3p, -200b-3p, -200c-3p, and -429-3p) as well as miR-192/215 family members (miR-192-5p, -194-5p, and -215-5p) as determined by microarray analysis in large intestinal LPL of C57BL/6 mice.

Although global H3K27me3 reprogramming is a hallmark of cancer, no effective therapeutic strategy for H3K27me3-high malignancies harboring EZH2 has yet been established. We explore epigenome and transcriptome in EZH2 and EZH2 aggressive lymphomas and show that mutual interference and compensatory function of co-expressed EZH1 and EZH2 rearrange their own genome-wide distribution, thereby establishing restricted chromatin and gene expression signatures. Direct comparison of leading compounds introduces potency and a mechanism of action of the EZH1/2 dual inhibitor (valemetostat).

Despite the recent development of novel therapies, relapse of MM eventually occurs as a result of a remaining population of drug-resistant myeloma stem cells. Side population (SP) cells show cancer stem cell-like characteristics in MM; thus, targeting these cells is a promising strategy to completely cure this malignancy.

AML relapse after conventional chemotherapy is caused by a remaining population of drug-resistant LSCs. Selective targeting of the chemoresistant population is a promising strategy for preventing and treating AML relapse.

Enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) or its close homolog EZH1 functions as a catalytic subunit of PRC2, so there are two PRC2 complexes containing either EZH2 or EZH1. Tumorigenic functions of EZH2 and its synthetic lethality with some subunits of SWItch/Sucrose Non-Fermentable (SWI/SNF) chromatin remodeling complexes have been observed.

A decrease of plasticity in the brain may be related to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative or psychiatric disorders. Pyrethroid insecticides, which affect sodium channels in neurons, are widely used to control insect pests in agriculture and in the home.

Results: The total anthocyanin content was higher in the third (3.
Pyrethroids, widely used insecticides with low acute toxicity in mammals, affect sodium channels in neurons. In a primary culture of rat cortical neurons, deltamethrin (DM), a type II pyrethroid, markedly enhanced the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) exon IV-IX (Bdnf eIV-IX) mRNA. In this study, we found that DM has a neurotrophic effect on cultured neurons and investigated the mechanisms responsible for it.

Tea has been found to exhibit various bioregulatory activities, including antiallergic, anticarcinogenic, antimetastatic, antioxidative, antihypertensive, antihypercholesterolemic, anti-dental caries and antibacterial effects, and to influence intestinal flora.

Porphyromonas gingivalis, a major periodontal pathogen, triggers a series of cellular inflammatory responses including the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), which causes periodontal destruction; thus, anti-inflammatory reagents are considered beneficial for periodontal therapy. In the present study, we examined whether hop- and apple-derived polyphenols (HBP and ACT, respectively) inhibit PGE2 production by human gingival epithelial (HGE) cells stimulated with P.

Porphyromonas gingivalis, a predominant periodontal pathogen, triggers a series of host inflammatory responses that aggravate the destruction of periodontium. Thus, anti-inflammatory reagents are considered desirable for effective periodontal therapy.

To assess the safety of topical hop bract polyphenols, Hopsphenon, we examined acute, 14-day, 28-day and 90-day toxicity tests in rats, and mutagenicity tests using Ames test and micronucleus test in mice. The acute, 14-day, 28-day and 90-day toxicity tests revealed that Hopsphenon produced no symptoms of significant injury.

Here, we showed that a small heat shock protein, HspA, interacts directly with phycocyanins from the cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. strain PCC 7942 in vitro and suppresses inactivation of their light-harvesting functions due to heat denaturation in the presence of hydrogen peroxide.

In this study we engineered a 'hard-wired' protein complex consisting of a hydrogenase and photosystem I (hydrogenase-PSI complex) as a direct light-to-hydrogen conversion system. The key component was an artificial fusion protein composed of the membrane-bound [NiFe] hydrogenase from the beta-proteobacterium Ralstonia eutropha H16 and the peripheral PSI subunit PsaE of the cyanobacterium Thermosynechococcus elongatus.

The ultrastructure of ECT cells under elevated temperature or intensive light stress exhibited severe damage including aggregation of cytosol and disordered thylakoid membranes, but in ECT16-1 cells these ultrastructural changes were much less conspicuous. Immunocytochemical studies showed that the main localization of HspA in the ECT16-1 cells shifted from the thylakoid area to the cytoplasm, then back to thylakoid area during the heat stress.
