L. (POL) has a long history of medicinal use worldwide, and numerous clinical and experimental studies demonstrated the therapeutic effects of POL and its active ingredients in the treatment of Ulcerative colitis (UC). In this review, we summarized the underlying mechanisms and roles of POL in UC treatment based on experimental and clinical studies.

Article Synopsis
  • - The text discusses Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), recently called metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), which affects about 30% of the global population and currently lacks optimal treatment options.
  • - The objective is to assess the effects of vitamin E, both alone and in combination with other vitamins or minerals, compared to placebo on individuals with NAFLD, using rigorous guidelines for selecting clinical trials.
  • - The study evaluates various outcomes, focusing on mortality rates and serious health impacts while also assessing the risk of bias and the quality of evidence through established Cochrane research methods.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Qingchang suppository (, QCS), a preparation of Chinese herbal medicine, in the induction of remission in patients with mild-to-moderate ulcerative proctitis (UP).

Methods: We performed a multicenter, prospective, randomized, parallel-controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy of QCS induction therapy in 140 adult patients with mild-to-moderate UP and TCM syndrome of dampness-heat in large intestine. The patients were randomized to receive QCS (study group) or Salicylazosulfapyridine (SASP) suppository (control group) one piece each time, twice a day, per anum for 12 weeks.

Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by relapsing-remitting abdominal pain, diarrhea, mucopurulent discharge and rectal bleeding. To date, the etiology of the disease remains unknown; therefore, medical therapy is not yet available. Left-sided UC is mainly treated with oral and topical mesalazine.

The cAMP-regulated phosphoprotein 19 (ARPP-19) plays a key role in cell mitotic G2/M transition. Expression of ARPP-19 was increased in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) compared to adjacent non-tumorous liver tissues in 36 paired liver samples, and the level of ARPP-19 in HCC tissues was positively correlated with the tumor size. To determine the interrelationship between ARPP-19 expression and HCC, we silenced ARPP-19 expression in the human hepatocarcinoma HepG2 and SMMC-7721 cells using lentivirus encoding ARPP-19 siRNA.

Lingguizhugan decoction (LGZG), a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula, has been used to treat obesity and hyperlipidemia in recent years, but the related mechanisms underlying the regulation of lipid metabolism by LGZG are not clear yet. Here, we reported the effectiveness and possible mechanisms of LGZG on rats with fatty liver disease induced by high-fat diet (HFD). Our results demonstrated that LGZG significantly attenuated HFD-induced fatty liver disease, as measured by body weight, liver index, epididymal fat pad-body weight ratio (EFP/BW), liver injury, and hepatic triglycerides (TG) probably through increasing serum thyroid hormone levels, improving beta-oxidation (via modulation of TR β 1 and CPT1A expression), metabolism and transport (through modulation of SREBP-1c, ACSL and ApoB100 expression) of fatty acid.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Hongzhu Wen"

  • - Hongzhu Wen's recent research primarily focuses on the treatment and management of liver-related diseases and inflammatory bowel conditions, emphasizing the potential of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in these areas.
  • - Notable studies include evaluating the efficacy of Qingchang suppository for ulcerative proctitis and the role of vitamin E in managing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), demonstrating a commitment to exploring both modern and traditional treatment modalities.
  • - His findings suggest significant positive outcomes for TCM approaches, as seen in the effectiveness of Qingchang therapy in inducing remission in ulcerative proctitis and the observed mechanisms of traditional formulas in mitigating fatty liver conditions.
