Background: The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic has spread globally, along with its incidence among children. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical characteristics and outcomes of children infected with COVID-19 and to provide a reference for clinical work.

Methods: The study retrospectively reviewed the clinical characteristics and prognosis of 7 children diagnosed with COVID-19 infection at The First People's Hospital of Jingzhou between January 30 and February 29, 2020.

Objective: To investigate the ideal animal models for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) subtypes and the effect of glucocorticoid receptor (GR) function on the behavior of ADHD rats by comparing behavioral differences between spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs), Wistar Kyoto (WKY) rats, and Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats.

Methods: A total of 24 male SHRs aged 21 days were randomly divided into GR agonist group, GR inhibitor group, and SHR group, with 8 rats in each group. Eight male WKY rats and 8 male SD rats, also aged 21 days, were enrolled as WKY group and SD group respectively.

Background: The angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) I/D polymorphism has been reported to be associated with Kawasaki disease (KD), but studies to date present conflicting results.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to derive a more precise estimation of the association between the ACE I/D polymorphism and KD risk.

Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, CNKI and Wangfang databases were retrievaled to identify for relevant studies from inception to May 2017.

Dexamethaone (DEX, glucocorticoid receptor agonist) and RU486 (glucocorticoid receptor inhibitor) may affect the behavior of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) rats, by changing the level of dopamine and noradrenaline and dopamine transporter in different regions of their brain. In this study, we have investigated the effect and the underlying mechanism of Glucocorticoids/Glucocorticoid receptors on dopaminergic neurotransmitters in ADHD Rats. Thirty male Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) and 30 male spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) were respectively divided into 3 groups randomly as follows: a GR agonist group (DEX), a GR inhibitor group (RU486) and a control group (CON).

Objective: To investigate the effects of hepatitis B virus (HBV) X protein (HBx) on the expression of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in glomerular mesangial cells (GMCs) and the underlying intracellular signal pathways.

Methods: The plasmid pCI-neo-X that carries the X gene of hepatitis B virus was transfected into cultured GMCs. HBx expression in the transfected GMCs was assessed by Western-blot.

The differences in therapeutic effectiveness between sustained low-efficiency dialysis (SLED) and continuous blood purification (CBP) were investigated. In order to assess the different treatment methods, 56 critically ill patients were divided into two groups, the CBP group and the SLED group. A comparison was made between all the biochemical indicators, in-hospital duration, hemodynamic parameters, acute physiology and chronic health evaluation (APACHE-II), the survival, and the mortality rates.

Background: Hepatitis B virus-associated glomerulonephritis (HBV-GN) is a kind of immune complex-induced glomerulonephritis. The present study was designed to determine whether mutation of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) S gene is associated with glomerulonephritis in Chinese children.

Methods: Total 53 subjects, including 30 HBV-GN, 5 nephrosis with HBV carriers (control group 1), and 18 HBV carriers (control group 2) were included in this study.

Objective: Hepatitis B virus-associated glomerulonephritis (HBV-GN) is an immune complex-mediated glomerulonephritis. The present study was conducted to identify HBV S gene mutation in children with HBV-GN.

Methods: Serum HBV DNA was extracted in 53 children, including 30 with HBV-GN, 5 with HBV-carrying nephrosis (control group 1), and 18 HBV carriers (control group 2).

The X gene of HBV encodes a 17-kD protein, termed HBx, which has been shown to function as a transcriptional trans-activator of a variety of viral and cellular promoter/enhancer elements. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of HBx on gene expression of interleukin (IL)-1 and IL-6, and proliferation of rat mesangial cells in vitro. The X gene of HBV was amplified by PCR assay, and inserted into the eukaryotic expression vector pCI-neo.

Objective: Nephrotic syndrome (NS) is characterized by marked urinary excretion of albumin and other intermediated-size plasma proteins such as transferrin. The aim of this study was to determine the changes of serum iron and transferrin and the relationship between the serum and urinary transferrin.

Methods: The indexes related to iron metabolism, including serum iron, ferritin, transferrin, total iron-binding capacity, transferrin saturation and hematological parameters (Hb, MCV, MCH), and urinary transferrin were measured in 37 children with NS before treatment and at the remission stage.
