Background: The Wiltse approach has been extensively employed in thoracolumbar surgeries due to its minimal muscle damage. However, in the middle and lower thoracic spine, the conventional Wiltse approach necessitates the severance of the latissimus dorsi and trapezius muscles, potentially leading to muscular injury. Consequently, we propose a modified Wiltse approach for the middle and lower thoracic vertebrae, which may further mitigate muscular damage.

The spiked helmet sign (SHS) is a rare electrocardiographic marker associated with an increased risk of lethal ventricular tachyarrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. To our knowledge, this is the first study aimed at reviewing recent research progress on this electrocardiogram (ECG) pattern to summarize its electrophysiological mechanisms, epidemiological features, clinical characteristics, and clinical significance. SHS formation is attributed to sympathetic hyperactivity, which mediates increased dispersion of ventricular repolarization, leading to marked QT prolongation and macroscopic T-wave alternans.

Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) were prepared via pyrolysis of citric acid and glutamic acid, then reacted with chlorauric acid to form a gold/graphene quantum dot hybrid (Au/GQD), and finally connected with hairpin DNA probe 1 (H1) and thionine (Thi). Despite a number of studies have emphasized the extensive role of microRNA (miRNA) in the development of multiple cancers, the role of miR-30a-5p in the progression of osteosarcoma (OS) and the underlying mechanism are still limited. We detected the expression level of MiR-30a-5p and forkhead box D1 (FOXD1) in Clinical OS specimens and found that miR-30a-5p was significantly decreased while FOXD1 was markedly increased. Dual luciferase assay confirmed that FOXD1 was directly regulated by miR-30a-5p.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its high affinity receptor, TrkB, play an essential role in memory extinction. Our previous work has shown that JIP3 (JNK interacted protein 3) mediates anterograde axonal transport of TrkB through the direct binding of its coiled-coil domain 1 (CC1) with TrkB. Here, we constructed a fluorescent CC1 and enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) fused protein, CC1-EGFP, and found that CC1-EGFP could specifically interrupt TrkB anterograde axonal transport and its localization at the pre-synaptic site.

Although studies using animal models have demonstrated that nonhemodynamic factors, including inflammatory cells and cytokines, contribute to left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), there is little clinical data to confirm this association. Therefore in the present study, levels of circulating specific types of leukocyte were measured to determine the association between white blood cells and left ventricular mass index (LVMI) in hypertensive patients undergoing anti-hypertensive drug therapy.
