Background: Pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) is the most common precursor lesion of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), which is a highly malignant tumor and lack of effective treatment. Although Xiao Chai Hu Tang (XCHT) has a good therapeutic effect on pancreatic cancer patients with advanced stage, the effect and mechanism of XCHT remains unclear in pancreatic tumorigenesis.

Purpose: To assess the therapeutic effects of XCHT on the malignant transformation from PanIN to PDAC and to reveal its mechanisms of pancreatic tumorigenesis.

In order to improve the antitumor potency and therapeutic margins of natural product sophoridine, its novel nitrogen mustard carbamate derivatives were designed and synthesized. In screening their in vitro activity, we found all the tested compounds were more potent against the highly aggressive triple-negative breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231. Cellular functional assays showed that representative compounds could induce G1-phase arrest and trigger apoptosis, evidenced by the alteration of Bax, Bcl-2, caspase-3 and PARP levels.

Effects of CDK6 regulated by miR-298 on proliferation and apoptosis of thyroid cancer cells were explored. Seventy-five cases of thyroid carcinoma and adjacent tissues were collected. The expression levels of miR-298 and CDK6 mRNA in tissues and cells were detected by RT-PCR.

Traditional Chinese medicine, based on theories developed and practiced for >2,000 years, is one of the most common complementary and alternative types of medicine currently used in the treatment of patients with breast cancer. Ruanjian Sanjie (RJSJ) decoction, is composed of four herbs, including Ban xia (Pinellia ternata), Xia ku cao (Prunella vulgaris), Shan ci gu (Cremastra appendiculata) and Hai zao (Sargassum pallidum), and has traditionally been used for softening hard lumps and resolving hard tissue masses. However, the active compounds and mechanisms of action of RJSJ remain unknown.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Cornus officinalis (CO) has been widely used as a traditional Chinese medicine for treating diabetes mellitus (DM) and its complications. Iridoid glycoside from C. officinalis (IGCO) can resist apoptosis, hyperglycemia, oxidation and so on.

Drug resistance is an obstacle in the chemotherapeutic treatment of lung cancers. In the present study, the effects of high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) protein in chemotherapeutic resistance and the relationships between HMGB1 and chemotherapy drug-induced cell apoptosis or necrosis were clarified. We used cisplatin-sensitive A549 cells and cisplatin-resistant A549/DDP cells as cell models with IC50 of 11.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Rehmanniae Radix (RR) and Cornus officinalis (CO) are two traditional Chinese medicines widely used in China for treating diabetes mellitus and its complications, such as diabetic nephropathy. Iridoid glycoside of Cornus officinalis (IGCO), triterpenoid acid of Cornus officinalis (TACO) and iridoid glycoside of Rehmanniae Radix (IGRR) formed an innovative formula named combinatorial bioactive parts (CBP). The aims of the present study were to investigate the renoprotective effects of CBP on DN through the inhibition of AGEs/RAGE/SphK1 signaling pathway activation, and identify the advantage of CBP compared with IGCO, TACO, IGRR.
