Vibrational ladder climbing (VLC) is one of the advanced methods for achieving molecular dissociation, usually requires the use of chirped laser pulses to adapt to the change of energy difference between molecular vibrational levels. In this work, a scheme is proposed for using non-chirped pulses to couple the vibrational rotational levels of excited state to realize VLC dissociation of LiH molecules in the excited state. The first pulse induces population excitation to the excited state AΣ, while the second pulse is used to drive the excited state vibrational levels population up step by step until dissociation occurs.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study investigated the role of magnesium hydride (MgH) as a hydrogen donor in mitigating the negative effects of Cd stress on Oryza sativa L. Japonica variety Zhonghua 11, finding that it helps restore balance and maintain photosynthesis by managing reactive oxygen species (ROS).
  • * Analysis revealed that MgH reduces mA RNA methylation levels and affects the expression of numerous genes related to stress responses, suggesting that hydrogen supplied by MgH plays a critical role in improving rice tolerance to heavy metal contamination.

Owing to sluggish reaction kinetics and high potential, oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts face a trade-off between activity and stability. Herein, an innovative topological strategy is presented for preparing 2D multimetallic (oxy)hydroxide, including ternary CoFeZn, quaternary CoFeMnZn, and high-entropy CoFeMnCuZn. The key to the synthesis lies in using Ca-rich brownmillerite oxide as a precursor, which possesses inherent structural flexibility enabling tailored elemental adjustments and topologically transforms from a point-shared structure of metal-oxygen octahedrons into an edge-shared structure under alkaline conditions.

Nanogrooves with high aspect ratios possess small size effects and high-precision optical control capabilities, as well as high specific surface area and catalytic performance, demonstrating significant application value in the fields of optics, semiconductor processes, and biosensing. However, existing manufacturing methods face issues such as complexity, high costs, low efficiency, and low precision, especially in the difficulty of fabricating nanogrooves with high resolution on the nanoscale. This study proposes a method based on focused ion beam technology and a layer-by-layer etching process, successfully preparing V-shaped and rectangular nanogrooves on a silicon dioxide substrate.

Importance: The effect of high-intensity noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) on the need for endotracheal intubation in patients with an acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is unknown.

Objective: To determine whether the use of high-intensity NPPV vs low-intensity NPPV reduces the need for endotracheal intubation in patients with an acute exacerbation of COPD and hypercapnia.

Design, Setting, And Participants: Randomized clinical trial conducted at 30 general respiratory non-intensive care unit wards of Chinese hospitals from January 3, 2019, to January 31, 2022; the last 90-day follow-up was on April 22, 2022.

Sixteen novel antioxidant peptides from Asian swamp eel (ASE) were identified in previous studies. However, their chemical and cellular antioxidant mechanisms remain unclear. Molecular docking of these peptides with ABTS and DPPH radicals revealed the critical role of hydrogen bonding and Pi-Pi stacking hydrophobic interactions between hydrophobic amino acid residues and free radicals.

Background: Oxidative stress is acknowledged as a pivotal factor in the intricate pathophysiological processes and pathogenesis of constipation. Modifying dietary patterns can elevate antioxidant biomarker levels, consequently mitigating oxidative stress. The Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) provides a dependable scoring mechanism for quantifying the potential antioxidant capacity of diets.

The extensive utilization of plastic products in recent years has resulted in a significant contamination of microplastics (MPs). The ingestion of MPs by aquatic and terrestrial organisms facilitates their transmission to mammals through the food chain. Therefore, the toxicity of MPs has attracted widespread attention from researchers.

Fresh red waxy corn is consumed worldwide because of its unique flavor and rich nutrients, but it is susceptible to deterioration with a short shelf life. This study explored the effect of slightly acidic electrolyzed water (SAEW) treatment on the quality and antioxidant capacity of fresh red waxy corn during postharvest cold storage up to 40 d. The SAEW treatment exhibited lower weight loss, softer firmness, and higher total soluble solids (TSS) and moisture content than the control group.

The nonantimicrobial properties and relatively poor mechanical properties of hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) limit its use in packaging. Sulfated rice bran polysaccharides (SRBP) possess significant antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different concentrations of SRBP on the physical and mechanical properties and the functional characteristics of HEC/SRBP films.

Microplastics (MPs) are plastic pollutants with a diameter of less than 5 mm and microcystins (MCs) are natural toxins produced by cyanobacteria. In recent years, the pollution of MPs and MCs attracted widespread attention. However, our understanding about the toxic effects of co-exposure of MPs and MCs on male reproduction is limited.

Cherry tomatoes are easily damaged due to their high moisture content. A composite coating was developed to delay deterioration and prolong storage by mixing antibacterial sulfated rice bran polysaccharides (SRBP) and edible hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) with film-forming properties. The effects of HEC, HEC-5% SRBP, and HEC-20% SRBP preservative coatings on the maintenance of the quality of cherry tomatoes (, 2) during cold storage were investigated.

China's agricultural subsidy system has increased the investment on the agricultural production factors such as energy and chemistry, which caused an increase of agricultural carbon emissions. Based on the Thousand-Village Survey data from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics in 2013, the focal paper uses ordinary and two-stage least squares (OLS and 2SLS) to systematically investigate the impact and mechanism of agricultural subsidies on agricultural carbon emissions in China. Results show that China's current agricultural subsidy system has a promoting effect on agricultural carbon emissions.

Papaya fruit has a limited shelf life due to its sensitivity to decay and chilling damage during cold storage. The application of methyl jasmonate (MeJA) is known to reduce the incidence of disease and chilling injury, and to maintain the overall quality of the papaya fruit when stored at low temperature. Consequently, the effects of postharvest MeJA (1 mM) immersion on papaya fruits during low-temperature storage (10 °C ± 2 °C) for 28 days were studied.
