Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to explore how allergen immunotherapy (AIT) might protect against viral infections, particularly during a surge of COVID-19 cases among patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) and allergic asthma (AS) in China.
  • The analysis included over 3,600 individuals who tested positive for COVID-19, comparing outcomes between patients receiving routine treatments versus those receiving AIT.
  • Results indicated that patients receiving AIT experienced milder symptoms, quicker recoveries, and reduced rates of hospitalization compared to those only on routine medications, suggesting AIT may enhance protection against severe viral infections.

Background: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is one of the most serious diseases affecting populations worldwide and lymph node metastasis is a key pathological feature of HNSCC which predicts poor survival. However, the molecular mechanisms associated with the development of lymph node metastasis in HNSCC have not been fully elucidated.

Methods: Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in two HNSCC datasets (GES6631 and GES58911).

Background: Oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) is a type of head and neck squamous cell cancer, the incidence of which has increased in recent years. Many studies have reported a variety of prognostic markers of OPC, but they are either expensive or difficult to obtain. Therefore, we retrospectively studied the prognostic value of circulating neutrophil count (CNC) in patients with OPC, with the aim of providing a theoretical basis for further prognostic stratification.

Background: Oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) is a kind of squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck, and its incidence is on the rise in recent years. A variety of prognostic markers for OPSCC have been reported in many studies, but they are expensive or difficult to obtain. So, we retrospectively studied the prognostic significance of cytokeratin 19 soluble fragment (Cyfra21-1) in patients with OPSCC, in order to provide theoretical basis for accurate prognosis assessment.

The role of long non-coding RNA nuclear-enriched abundant transcript 1 (lncRNA NEAT1) in sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma (SNSCC) remained obscure. Target genes and potential binding sites of NEAT1, microRNA (miR)-195-5p and VEGFA were predicted using StarBase and TargetScan, and confirmed by dual-luciferase reporter assay. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was performed to detect the expressions of NEAT1, vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) and miR-195-5p.

To compare the consistency of RSI and RFS, pepsin detection and 24 h Dx-pH monitoring in the diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) in children. A retrospective analysis was made of 76 children with suspicious LPR. A total of 65 children with suspicious LPR were finally diagnosed.

Objective: To explore the expression and significance of programmed cell death 5 (PDCD5) and Bcelllymphoma/lewkmia-2(Bcl-2) in sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma (SNSCC).

Method: Immunohistochemical method and Western Blot method was used to determine the expression of PDCD5 and Bcl-2 in specimen of SNSCC in thirty cases, sinonasal inverted papillomas (SNIP) in thirty-eight cases, and normal nasal mucosa in twenty cases.

Result: (1) The expression of PDCD5 protein in SNSCC significantly decreased compared with SNIP and normal nasal mucosa.

Objective: To investigate the expression of EMS1 and DcR3 in laryngeal carcinoma and analyze the relation of EMS1 and DcR3.

Method: The expression of EMS1 and DcR3 protein in 41 laryngeal carcinoma fresh samples and 41 para-carcinoma tissues (to cutting margin > 0.5 cm) were measured by flow cytometry, and 15 normal laryngeal mucosa samples were also studied as controls.
