The development of sustainable pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) from natural biomass resources has attracted increasing attention owing to their non-toxic, biocompatible, and biodegradable features. In this study, a bio-based acrylic PSA with tunable adhesion and cohesion was synthesized by a selective chemical modification of isosorbide-5-acrylate (IA) and its copolymerization with butyl acrylate and acrylic acid through UV-curing crosslinking. During the UV-curing process, the synthesized isosorbide diacrylate ester (IDAE) served as the crosslinker, effectively improving the crosslinking degree of PSA.

The performance and phase-separated microstructures of epoxy asphalt binders greatly depend on the concentration of epoxy resin or bitumen. In this paper, the effect of the epoxy resin (ER) concentration (10-90%) on the viscosity, thermo-mechanical properties, and phase-separated morphology of warm-mix epoxy asphalt binders (WEABs) was investigated using the Brookfield rotational viscometer, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM). The application of crumb rubber from end-of-life tires and waste cooking oil (WCO) in road pavements is of significant importance from an economic and environmental viewpoint. However, the incorporation of crumb rubber greatly shortens the allowable construction time of epoxy asphalt binders due to the high viscosity of the epoxy asphalt rubber (EAR) binder and poor compatibility between crumb rubber and asphalt binder. A convenient, environment-friendly, and cost-effective method to keep anti-icing for a long time was highly desirable. Slippery lubricant layers were regarded to be effective and promising for anti-icing on different surfaces, but the drought-out of lubricants and the possible detriments to the environment were inevitable. Polyurethane/attapulgite (PU/ATT) nanocomposites derived from castor oil were prepared by incorporation of 8 wt % ATT, acid-treated ATT, and KH560-treated ATT. The effects of three ATTs (ATT, acid-ATT, and KH560-ATT) on the comprehensive properties of PU/ATT nanocomposites were systematically investigated. The results showed that the incorporation of 8 wt % of three ATTs could produce an obvious reinforcement on the castor oil-based PU and that the silane modification treatment, rather than the acid treatment, has the more effective reinforcement effect.

A new and simple method for wounding cotyledonary node cells of soybean [Glycine max (L) Merrill] was developed for obtaining a high frequency of transformants. Soybean seeds were germinated for 1 day, and the cotyledonary node cells of half-seeds were wounded mechanically by using a multi-needle consisting of thin 30 fibers. The wounded half-seeds were inoculated with Agrobacterium tumefaciens cells harboring a recombinant DNA that contained the bar and sgfp genes conferring phosphinothricin (PPT)-resistance and green fluorescent protein (GFP) activity, respectively.
