Stimulant laxatives (especially bisacodyl and sodium picosulfate) are frequently found to be adulterated into slimming foods, causing health-threatening effects to consumers. Sensitive, accurate, easy-to-operate and portable multiplex analytical techniques are still desired for the rapid screening of stimulant laxatives in slimming foods. In this work, a highly sensitive dual-modal colorimetric/photothermal lateral flow immunochromatographic assay (LFIA) was established based on facilely prepared concentrated gold nanoparticles (cAuNPs).

Historically, antibodies have been divided into two functionally independent domains, the variable (V) region for antigen binding and the constant (C) region for mediating effector functions. However, this classical view of antibody function has been severely challenged by a large and growing number of studies, which reveal long-range conformational interactions and allosteric links between the V and C regions. This review comprehensively summarizes the existing studies on antibody allostery, including allosteric conformational changes induced by covalent modifications or noncovalent ligand binding.

To overcome the limitations of insufficient sensitivity and poor specificity of portable screen-printed carbon electrode-electrochemical sensors (SPCE-EC) in practical applications, we prepared carrier composites of carboxylic single-walled carbon nanotubes vertically grafted by covalent organic frameworks (v-COF@SWCNTs-COOH) and coated with a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) of sulfadimidine (SM). 55 °C hot steam elution is more eco-friendly than traditional organic solvent elution. The results showed that when the mass ratio of DBA to DBA-SWCNTs was 1:1, the v-COF@SWCNTs-COOH obtained by the two-step synthesis method could increase the electrical signal up to 2.

Camellia oil is a high-value edible seed oil, recommended by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). It is essential to develop accurate and rapid analytical methods to authenticate camellia oil due to its susceptibility to adulteration. Recently, hyphenated chromatography-mass spectrometry, especially high-resolution mass spectrometry using chemometrics, has become a promising platform for the identification of camellia oil.

Article Synopsis
  • A ratiometric fluorescence hydrogel nanosensor was created using a composite of OPD, manganese dioxide nanoflakes, and N-doped carbon dots embedded in agarose hydrogel to detect sulfite levels.
  • The manganese dioxide nanoflakes acted as an oxidase mimetic, converting OPD into a fluorescent compound while quenching the fluorescence of N-doped carbon dots through FRET (Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer).
  • When sulfite was present, the oxidase-like activity was inhibited, leading to a measurable change in fluorescence that allowed for a detection range from 3 nM to 400 μM, making this sensor a practical and cost-effective option for monitoring food safety with smartphone compatibility.
