Objective: To investigate the effect of medium molecular weight hydroxyethyl starch solution (HES) administered as replacement for estimated blood losses (EBL) during cytoreductive surgery for ovarian carcinoma on splanchnic oxygenation.

Methods: Cytoreductive surgery was operated upon forty-two patients with ovarian carcinoma.
