Objective: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of physical activity and its association with the progression of difficulty performing activities of daily living among older adults in China.

Methods: A population-based prospective cohort study based on China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) data was conducted in 2018 and 2020. This study used a logistic model to empirically estimate the effects on daily living activities among older adults.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how common cognitive impairment, specifically mild cognitive impairment (MCI), is among older adults in community settings in Chengdu, China, highlighting its prevalence at 32.0%.
  • The research also explores factors associated with MCI, finding that malnutrition significantly increases the risk, with 55.6% of malnourished participants affected.
  • Other identified risk factors include age (particularly those 70 and older), male gender, living in rural areas, lower education levels, and dependence in activities of daily living (ADL).

Article Synopsis
  • In 2009, China initiated comprehensive healthcare reform aimed at creating accessible, affordable, and efficient health services, focusing on the health workforce, funding, and infrastructure as key components.
  • This study examines the regional disparities and inequities in the distribution of healthcare workers, specifically technicians and nurses, across Chinese hospitals and primary health centers over a twelve-year period.
  • The findings reveal that while the overall ratio of health workers has increased, rural and western districts have better ratios compared to urban and eastern districts, indicating ongoing inequalities in workforce allocation at different healthcare levels.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the prevalence of various geriatric syndromes among older adults living in communities in Chengdu, China, focusing on those aged 60 and above.
  • Out of 706 participants, 90.5% were found to have at least one geriatric syndrome, with 72.8% experiencing multiple syndromes, with polypharmacy and malnutrition being the most common.
  • The study identifies demographic factors such as age, marital status, and self-reported health as significant contributors to the occurrence of multiple geriatric syndromes, calling for further research to understand the temporal and causal relationships involved.

Objective: To investigate the clinical features of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC)-related thrombosis (PICCRT) within 2 weeks after PICC placement in cancer patients and its dynamic influence on the blood flow status of veins inserted with catheter, and to provide support for implementing thrombosis prevention and control measures.

Methods: Between May 2019 and July 2020, patients who had solid tumors and who had PICC were prospectively enrolled at West China Hospital, Sichuan University. Scheduled color Doppler imaging was performed to examine the status of PICCRT formation at 8 points of time, with the first one conducted one day before the insertion of PICC and the other 7 completed within 2 weeks after the insertion of PICC.

Ultrasonographically measured optic nerve sheath diameter measurement has become a common noninvasive approach for detecting elevated intracranial pressure. We present a case of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage with elevated intracranial pressure. Postoperative arachnoiditis developed, and lumbar puncture revealed low intracranial pressure.

Ultrasonography assessments of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) is a non-invasive method that may help identify elevated intracranial pressure (ICP). However, this technique was used to evaluate the elevated ICP caused by traumatic brain injury. The objective of this study was to examine clinical cases of the changes in ICP with venous sinus stenosis and venous sinus thrombosis found the advantage of this technique in the application.

Background: Limited research has been conducted to address stroke etiology in young patients in developing countries. We aimed to analyze risk factors and etiology of ischemic stroke (IS) in young patients of northeast China.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed ischemic stroke patients aged 15-49 years in a single-center study from January 2013 to December 2017.

Non-invasive measurement of intracranial pressure (ICP) using ultrasound has garnered increasing attention. This study aimed to compare the reliability of ultrasonographic measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) and transcranial Doppler (TCD) in detecting potential ICP elevations. Patients who needed lumbar puncture (LP) in the Department of Neurology were recruited from December 2016 to July 2017.

Background: Previous studies assessing the risk of stroke in the general population performed screening with Doppler ultrasonography only for high-risk patients and neglected low- and moderate-risk patients. The aims of this study were to explore the current prevalence of intracranial arterial stenosis (ICAS) and analyze its association with different levels of stroke risk and risk factors based on the risk assessment scale for stroke used in China.

Methods: A total of 3654 participants who underwent transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD) were eligible for inclusion.

Development of chicken-sourced antibodies offers an alternative strategy for the development of highly specific antibodies against mammalian proteins with conserved epitopes due to the phylogenetic distance between avian and mammalian species. In this study, the single-chain variable fragments (scFvs) against porcine interferon-gamma was screened and characterized from a hyperimmunized chicken phage display library. The expressed soluble scFvs exhibited highly specific recognition of porcine interferon-gamma in ELISA, Western blot, and immunofluorescence staining assays.
