Objective: To identify the representative attributes of the five elements of a person with a qualitative methodology and provide the basis for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of "people with the five elements in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)."

Methods: Data collected from the literature review, two sessions of brainstorming of experts with related experience in "people with the five elements in TCM" from October 2020 to December 2020, and six rounds of in-depth interviews with 30 participants who had various attributes of the five elements from March 2021 to October 2021 were analyzed. Triangulation was used in this study, and theming and synthesizing were used to analyze the data.

Rational: Prepulse inhibition (PPI) is suppression of the startle reflex by a weaker sensory stimulus (prepulse) preceding the startling stimulus. In people with schizophrenia, impairment of attentional modulation of PPI, but not impairment of baseline PPI, is correlated with symptom severity. In rats, both fear conditioning of prepulse and perceptually spatial separation between the conditioned prepulse and a noise masker enhance PPI (the paradigms of attentional modulation of PPI).

Objective: Patients with major depression (MD) experience a variety of emotional and mental problems accompanied by characteristic clinical symptoms. Based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) notions, the clinical appearance of MD can be divided into two syndromes, namely a deficiency pattern (DP) and an excess pattern (EP), depending on the patient's clinical symptoms, pulse, and lingual signs. Objective: To explore the efficacy of jieyu granule (JG) combined Paroxetine in treating refractory depression (RD) patients of yin deficiency inner heat syndrome (YDIHS).

Methods: Seventy RD patients of YDIHS were randomly assigned to the experimental group (JG combined Paroxetine) and the control group (Chinese medical placebo combined Paroxetine), 35 cases in each group. Hamilt Depression Rating Scale and Hamilton Anxiety Scale were used before treatment, and at the weekend of the 2nd, 4th, and 8th week, respectively.

Objective: To acquire the case constitution of bipolar disordered (BPD) in mood disordered (MD) outpatients at two local Beijing hospitals to understand the case constitution and medication intention of clinical psychiatrists in terms of differentiation and treatment of BPD.

Methods: All psychiatrists at Anding Hospital and neurological physicians at Xuanwu Hospital were surveyed by self-rated questionnaires and the analysis focused on the composition of proportions of BPD cases out of MD patients. The items included estimated ratio of BPD cases, doctors' intention of drug prescription and clinical therapeutic regimen for treatment of BPD.
